Big Rice win - 50 years ago today
November 17, 1973, probably the most exciting Rice game I’ve ever attended. Carl Swierc returned a kickoff late against A&M, under darkening skies. He basically took it straight up the field, super fast guy. The Aggies almost spoiled the party with a TD as time ran out, but they were repelled.

One of the happiest Rice sports moments ever, right up there with 1970 SWC hoops champion, 1994 Rice over UT in football, and the CWS win.

There were some brutal football beats/ties in Rice Stadium in the 70s, games against LSU and Arkansas come to mind. Also, 10 years later, a terrible last minute loss against Iowa State when we had a rocking chair lead late. Those games sting, but then I reflect on the 1973 Aggie game, and it helps.

College football today bears almost no resemblance to the 1973 scene. It was pretty fun in Rice Stadium in 1973. That was also the game when the MOB had their highest moment of glory/notoriety.

Let’s get a W tomorrow. Good vibes only
