Of the non-seeded teams, I like Western Michigan and Kentucky to make some noise in this tournament. Kentucky found their form late and has been really strong the last month of the season. The tournament committee did Notre Dame no favors possibly giving them a matchup of either the Big East champion or red-hot Kentucky in their first game of the tournament.

Lipscomb at Indiana could be an interesting game. Lipscomb's program has gotten rather competitive the past few years. And IU seems down this season (at least by its standards).

California Baptist did win the WAC tournament but haven’t really had any amazing season. But to make it to nationals both of your first 2 seasons is impressive. Not an easy feat. And they’ve done it in multiple sports fwiw. They took the fast track from naia to the top of d2 and they are taking the fast track into d1 as well.

I wish them luck just because they’re a WAC team I’m familiar with. They have played San Diego already once this year, so I like CBU’s chances.

Wild one so far in Pittsburgh. Currently 2-2 with 4 goals scored in the first 22 minutes. This one has the potential to be a barnburner...

Lots of close games. Only one team (Western Michigan) has won today by three goals (WMU beat Green Bay 3-0).

CBU beat San Diego in triple overtime on penalty kicks, 3-2, to advance to the second round against Marshall.

Maybe the ACC’s realignment/expansion approach is influenced by men’s soccer. Two of the incoming members, SMU and Stanford, are also seeded teams in the tournament. SMU seems to have a championship level team this year.

Although the elite US-born athletes are increasingly being scooped-up by MLS development programs, universities with competitive soccer teams have tapped the international market for top-end talent.

Wow. I did not realize. That might be one reason Marshall seems to have the top program in the nation.
