Rice fans were super classy as expected
All seven of them?

clt says 3 walked by the tailgate, but they may have been on campus for an academic conference

I advised all to take a wide berth around the clt gate, that grill looks hot

clt says that was wise, we had the ecu navy game on the tv. no one needs to watch ecu football

Our radio guy was very impressed and sounded like he was reading from the ghostofclt press release on the stadium and campus.

If he mentioned the skyline though I missed it

clt says we print pro charlotte propaganda and put it in the bojangles boxes. works every time

This team is a step forward to the eye test and by metrics from previous editions of the Bloomgren era, all while competing in a TOP 3 G conference.

It’s measurable progress on both offense and defense and I think we’ve earned the respect of a lot of our “new” conference mates along the way this year as a team to be reckoned with.

That’s how I see it. Rice Football has been fun to watch this year and I hope we just keep on trending up.

But don’t take my word for it, ask our three common opponents from last year to this year.
Houston 7 pt loss => 2 pt win
Charlotte 33 pt loss => 21 pt win
UTSA 34 pt loss => 20 pt loss

Or FAU 3 pt loss => TBD

Last year FAU beat us and we both ended up 5-7. If the beat us again this year then that’s only 3 out of 4 opponents that we improved against.
If we beat them then it’s 4 out of 4.

I hope we keep trending up too, but it's hard to see it after this season and the previous ones under this regime. Remember when previous couch Bailiff won out to end the season and got that contract extension? How'd that one work out? History has a way of repeating for those who don't learn from it. I'd like to think this was a significant turn. Maybe--for NMSU, who beat Auburn in Auburn, AL. Beating Charlotte in Charlotte just doesn't seem to be comparable. But I could be wrong. This might be the game that starts the undefeated juggernaut of Rice football under Bloom. Either that, or we're just 'Bloomin' it' again (not my phrase, but not trademarked, AFAIK.)

If you are referring to 2012, then the way that turned out was that Rice won the CUSA Championship in 2013, went to the Hawaii bowl in 2014 and missed a bowl game in 2015 by one game. then of course Bailiff proceeded to not win until he was let go at the 2017. All this while not receiving anything approaching the support that the current coach gets; certainly no 5* QBs in the transfer portal. Bailiff wasn't as horrible a coach as people make him out to be.

Didn't think we could find a worse one at this level than Bailiff was overall, but Rice said...hold my beer and so far seems to have found one. This isn't the Jerry Berndt-era SWC we're playing here, either. And neither did Bailiff have to run that hard a gauntlet. I, too thought we were better and ready to breakout to a new level as Bailiff claimed at the time. Then We all saw at the Liberty Bowl in 2013 just how far away we were from even being competitive with a mid-level SEC team backfilling themselves into that bowl. It was cold up in those stands, and the Miss State fans were so polite, they were embarrassed for us, at least the ones I was around, trying to make us feel better after the debacle/scrimmage. From almost the beginning to the end of that game Bailiff's Owls looked like they were still just waking up, completely unready to play after winning a mediocre CUSA. Now we have the EZF, we have done some renovations to other parts of Stadium. We do pay the couch more than we used to. Don't know what the answer is here, since there seems little fire under anyone's belly on S. Main for so long, we may have to reinvent it.

I Like what current (for the moment) Kansas Coach Lance Leipold recently said about his job at the tough-to-win-at Kansas program: Leipold spoke about how incredibly fulfilling it has been to do something that has really never been done at Kansas, and how at jobs like Wisconsin and Nebraska you're constantly trying to reach the success of guys like Barry Alvarez, Bret Bielema, or Tom Osborne. Maybe he's just blowing coachspeak smoke before Michigan State opens their checkbook. We'll see. Would that a coach on S. Main approached the Rice job as more than a caretaker, especially after that becomes the clear expectation after he's been there a year or two and has to decide whether to keep his fire (if he ever had any) or just mail it in and enjoy the comfy, no-pressure mediocrity and a nice annual check if they don't rock the boat.

Well, I'm glad this season is over. Time to hit the Portal for a QB and some WRs, maybe get a decent OL or 5 and......

WHAT?

One more game?

S**t!

Yeah and you can’t quit now, USF needs the Charlotte win to be bowl eligible.

Hey -idea- maybe you can consider the nice trip down to Florida your “bowl game”?

And if you win then they can consider it “their bowl game” too? Kumbaya all around right?
