UTA, this could be your big (Football) moment!

Most of the article appeared to be behind a paywall. Starting a new conference is rough. No autobid.

The details are obviously the interesting part but they come to the same conclusion that any of us would: its not likely to happen.

not a good time to start a new conference. all the better Texas schools are already in a successful conference so you would only have the lesser programs to pick from and they are better off staying where they are because NIL and pay for play is not in the cards for any of us bottom feeders. IMHO

I am not subscribed to DC but all the other articles I have read, and agreeing with the above comments, I am also a hard NO. There is no need for it and logistically wouldn't happen at this point.

RE: Texas Athletic Conference
The general concept of a "Texas Conference" is appealing, but when you get down to specifics, it's hard to see how individual colleges could fit in. Maybe the D-II programs that aspire to move up would be most attracted, but how does that differ from a west division of the SLC?
I think we're in for an extended era of promotion/relegation similar to European soccer leagues, where the more successful programs will move up, and the less viable ones drop down. W-L records will matter a little, but much more important will be dollars.
IRL and transfer portal, without some kinds of boundaries, will continue to threaten the entire house of cards, as fans will express growing distaste for a system that puts the best athletes up for sale.
Say what you will about "fairness," loyalty to fans and alumni is being sacrificed, and the vast majority of potential college athletes, who would be ecstatic to be offered a full ride or even partial scholarship will be harmed if a middle ground cannot be found.

I agree. Even for a D-II upgrade program, there's no reason to choose such an arrangement over the WAC, with its AQ slots and (mostly irrelevant) history.

An all Texas Conference would work at the D2 level but not the D1 if it were to have any sucess on a national level.

Big moment? Seems like this would be a pretty SMALL moment to start football up. Why would UTA add football for a weak all-TX FCS league just a few years removed from Sun Belt membership, which would’ve granted them immediate access to the FBS (which, like it or not, would be the only reasonable telos for a school of UTA’s academic and athletic prowess).
And for Tarleton, aren’t they CUSA bound? Isn’t Judy on campus ready to grant that imminent invitation? Why would they be planning for this if they’re coming for “Scam Houston” in the FBS? Although I’m starting to think the widely accepted definition of “imminent” might be a bit different than Tarleton fans’.

Thanks for posting on the WAC board. Why all the hate directed towards TSU?
