The Braves are projected to go 14-17 overall, but 12-6 in the SWAC. They won the conference two years ago, and tied for first last season.

UAB last hosted Alcorn on November 25, 2020. The Blazers won 99-50. Jalen Benjamin had 21 points for UAB. Jalen plays for Santa Clara now. He is now listed at 5-11 160. At UAB he was 5-10 140. The two previous seasons Jalen was at Mount St. Mary’s, where he was their star player.

Alcorn State (277) lost at Arkansas State (190) last night, 100-84. Arkansas State led 48-34 at halftime, and led by double digits for the last 30 minutes of the game.

Looking ahead, KenPom has UAB only winning by 3 at Arkansas State on Dec. 9th. (79-76).

It has to suck from a few perspectives for the Alcorn state folks. They won the Swac regular season title in ‘22 & ‘23 but lost in Bartow in the Swac tournament forcing NIT berth.

When Alcorn State basketball is brought up, one can’t help but think of Davey Whitney. He is to Alcorn State basketball what Gene Bartow was to UAB basketball.
