48 Years Ago Today...
An unbelievable tragedy occurred on Lake Superior. I still remember hearing the news that day and how everybody was shocked.

Every year on this day, the Maritime Sailors' Cathedral in Detroit rings the bell 29 times for each man lost.

Canadian singer-songwriter Gordon Lightfoot passed away in May this year at 84. He is revered as one of Canada's most beloved musicians. He was one of the greatest storytellers via song of all time.

By design. Meant to make one think what those guys must have been feeling, knowing they were doomed.

yet, it's iconic ... I can hear it w/o listening ... never owned a Lightfoot album...

or is it akin to herpes ... 03-wink

seriously, MHB ... nice reminder and tribute that coincidentally falls on Veterans Day...

I was 10.4 when that happened....

I'm reminded every year but never listened to the full song. Good song. A song like that wouldn't leave an imprint if it came out today. Everyone just wants to hate. People would be blaming the corporation or shipping industry, or claiming it was climate change or 'the song is too sad.' . Who knows. They probably did complain.

Was a freak storm that rapidly intensified and caught people by surprise. This was to be her last trip of the shipping season.
