Gorgeous play from ACU out of the timeout. 46-33 Rice at the U5.

We still haven't figured out ACU's zone. Aimlessly passing it around the perimeter. And still way too many defensive breakdowns for my liking. Rice up 46-35.

Two fun facts.

Rice just 2/12 16.7% from 3pt

And

I was lucky enough to see Air Supply in concert in this gym.

And bad basketball returns. The start of the quarters are good but then descend into a mess on both ends of the court.

One of the most significant differences between the teams tonight? The energy on ACU's bench. I get that they're the home team, but we need some juice on the bench.

Rice up 48-39. Rough couple minutes for Adams.

49-39 Rice, end of 3Q. Blistering start to the quarter (first 5 minutes were something like 16-4 Rice) and then completely lost steam (outscored something like 8-2 over the second 5 minutes).

We seem to be all out of love for the Rice women’s team tonight on this board.

Lead down to 52-47. ACU back into the zone that's given us so much trouble.

Well not exactly the quality of play we are used to.

Ennis with a big floater and then three. Lead back up to 10, 59-49.

Ennis with another massive 3 after a big offensive rebound from Samb/Bokunewicz. Rice up 63-51. Lineup in to close the game is Samb, Fisher, Gooden, Ennis, and Owens-Barnett. We'll see if that changes.

Owens-Barnett with a smooth jumper to extend the lead to 65-53.

Owens-Barnett ices it with a 3. Big shot for her because she hasn't looked very good shooting it from deep. 68-53 Rice with a minute and change left.

Rice wins 69-58. There were glimpses of a good team but overall it was probably a below average performance. 12 second half points for Fisher, including 9 early in the 3rd quarter. 15 4th quarter points for Owens-Barnett and Ennis, who closed the door. 6 total assists for the game is a kind of shocking stat.

RE: WBB at ACU
A road win is always good. I didn’t see any of the game but this team will obviously live or die on Fisher, and the outside shot. If Fisher stays out of foul trouble and we make enough outside shots, we can beat most teams on our schedule.

The AAC isn’t anything great in women’s hoops, and in fact, might be a shade below last year’s CUSA teams. USF,ECU and Rice, and then a drop off to the next level. Tulane lost at home last night to Nichols who was picked last in the Southland (HCU was picked in a tie for fifth).

Stingy stat crew. They only had seven assists. But we had eight three pointers. I guarantee we should have had more than six assists.

6 assists vs. 16 turnovers. Not a good stat line. DJ played 28 minutes with zero assists? Only 4 shots from our post players (Hayes, Sussy, Samb). Definitely a work in progress.
