The ladies started off cool, but went into half-time lead, lost that quickly and now a potentially devastating knee injury to Laura Nickel "I think". It could be a tough year with two major players going down this early in the year.

Is Arkansas St really good at WBB? The one highlight video on ESPN it looks like a big crowd for an 11am game on Thursday

Looking at their roster they have 11 juniors annd senior/grad players out of 14 players. Very upperclassmen heavy.

Official attendance 2,685 and it looked it.

Also, Koker, Blumenfeld and now Nickel possibly injured (no info) and out for (?). The first two before the exhb. Ripon game, Nickel in this one (first official, since the exhb is not listed in the w-l record).

If for any length of time, roster is down to 10.

Also, Blumenfeld and Nickel are listed at 6-0, which means 2 of NIU's 5 players 6-0+ are out for (?).

Despite a two-point halftime lead (33-31), Huskies lose by 13. Outscored by 13 in the third quarter (27-14) and two in the fourth (17-15).
Arkansas State lost Sun Belt tourney championship at end of prior year, third loss over last nine games still resulted in 13-19 record; so regardless of returnees, ASU is no power.

They said Arkansas St is a bunch of D1 transfers and this was their second game. It was education day so the local kids had field trips to the game and that’s why it was so early

One positive, Brooke Stonebraker had her first career double-double with 14 rebounds.

Watched ESPN+ instant replay. Laura Nickel's injury looked to be a freak accident ...

... AState player drives, gets fouled by NIU's Grace Hunter, misses the shot while falling down, gets fouled. As the AState player falls down, she rolls half backwards into Nickel's left knee, knocking Nickel down. It looked like Nickel was in a wide stance with knees locked when she was hit.

Nickel held her head with both hands in obvious pain, had a painful grimace on her face, did not try to get up as was checked by trainer, helped off court by two staff.

Absolutely terrible thing to happen, and sincere hopes for the best for Laura Nickel.

Post on the official website says HC Carlsen has signed three for 2024, including her daughter Lexi, a pretty good guard out of Sycamore HS. That doesn't bother me; NIU has had family on teams.

What DOES bother me is this: Lexi is 5-8, Mackenzie Brass is 5-9 and Julia Sollberger is 5-8. NIU has five players 6-0 and taller on its current roster; one is a grad and another is a senior. Is NIU going back to the land of the run-and-shoot midgets?

Anyway, there are three others seniors on the 13-member roster, so maybe the Huskies can yet get some height. This was the early signing period.

Portal for post players. Love they are going back to run and gun. Post players at mid major that are “impact” are hard to find. Have to get one and develop.

Tandez needs to go. Guy is stealing $ from NIU but that is on the head coach

More options to recruit athletes and shooters in this system.

If it doesn’t work she’s gone and STFu will have to make another hire.
