RE: MBB @ Kent State
If Kent St misses that last free throw in regulation on purpose, time expires before we get two shots off. Making that free throw allowed us to advance the ball on the baseball pass all the way down court with the clock stopped.

That is actually a great point. Coach should have instructed him to miss the second. From watching it definitely seemed as if he was trying to make it. That said I can't blame coach or player as so many things had to happen for us to tie.

This is the most talented, experienced, & exciting team we've had in a long time.

I’m not sure I can agree with all of that, at least not yet.
2 great road wins, but the story hasn’t been told with the last 29 games and a Sun Belt tourney.
Experienced? Yes, but no more than last year’s squad.

Talented? Yes. I see a lot of good players, none of them great. Of course, it is a team game and I always prefer a good team over one that has a few very talented players. So far the whole is greater than the sum of its parts which speaks to good coaching.

Exciting? Yes. The first 2 games were absolutely top notch and riveting. Hopefully the team can keep some juice while the SOS drops and the opponents are harder to get up for. This week has the be the best first week of the season for any JMU hoops team ever. Let’s see them stack more weeks on top of this one.

That's two of the most challenging back to back away games played with a team that has a large number of the roster getting used to each other and forced to playing line-ups they haven't even ran in practice due to foul trouble.

And we won both games without having a single player having a magical career night. Team ball and multiple players with ice in their veins when momentum is swinging or game is in the clutch and we need a shot. I don't know how you can look at these two wins and not see that there is something special about this group.
I think the defense is only going to improve as more game minutes get logged and the switches, etc. become more natural and the chemistry improves.

As is the case every year, we will loss some head scratchers which will make all the message board coaches come a live, but this team obviously has the ability to play with the big boys on any given night.

I never got that excited about Matt's 16 seed team because even on a good night they could not beat a top of the bracket team.

Subject change - This is the biggest trash talking Men's BB team in JMU history. You would think with Vado graduating this team would be less trash talking. 03-lmfao

Why was he even in the game? Kent State’s coach is regretting the decision to have him in there at the end of regulation as an inexperienced player who maybe shoots FT’s well? We found out he definitely pushes off well. 02-13-banana

With a blatant and inexplicable pushoff it was to give JMU the ball back with 1.2 seconds. 03-lmfao all Kent had to do was throw the ball into the front court and it was game over.

Great game yesterday between two high-level mid-majors. The quality (for the most part) & intensity for a November game was impressive. Wasn't the outcome I wanted, but congratulations to the Dukes.

Thanks for stopping by. This felt like a Tourney level game, and seems both teams could be dancing in March if they keep it up 04-cheers

RE: MBB @ Kent State
MAC/SBC - challenge is smart for both conferences.

Is the second game guaranteed at home for us, or does this depend? The announcers described it as a matchup to be determined based on NET scores.

The announcers were good and pointed out a major difference - I see in this year over recent past seasons. That is, we swung the passes 1 or 2 times to an even more open perimeter player. In the past, we seemed more likely to pass around some and try to penetrate than kick it to a shooter for a 3. The additional passes got better looks, and also sometimes opened us up to drive for mid-range jumpers.

We had trouble finishing layups and tip-ins and had trouble limiting their offensive rebounds. With our heavy rotation of numbers, we seem much fresher than other teams late in the game. There were players in game 1, who looked overmatched and in game 2 were smooth and under control. We're deep - but inexperienced playing with each other. As the year progresses, we'll likely settle into a smaller rotation and of course be more fluid together.

We haven't played like it is November or like we're still sorting through our top 7 players.

RE: MBB @ Kent State
Yes, and the 2nd round of the SBC-MAC challenge should be a good game. Possibly the best game left this year, with the rest of the OOC being ho-hum and the Sun Belt lacking any strong teams.
If JMU can keep a decent roll in the next 2 months they could set themselves up to host whoever is at the top of the MAC based on results and that usually is a pretty good mid major opponent.
Perhaps it is Kent State or perhaps it is even a better team with a chance to get a top 100 win.
