Var'keyes Gumms is on campus today. He was a CUSA freshman all-conference TE/WR at UNT two years ago and went to Arkansas last year. would be a big get

I'm treating Gilbert as a walkon until he is formally announced, like I waited for Kade Martin. he did report an offer, however. So, give y'alls opinion on what to do there.

added a pledge from Evan McCray

I would not call anything we have done this offseason great, or even close to adequate. One or two recruits does not make up for two years worth of damage.

“We’ll see” is all I can say.

I don’t see upgrades or immediate help, so far.

Hell, they could enroll, get their spring film, and then hit the portal again in April.

Well the good news is Ingram isn’t competent enough to hire a good coach, so we won’t have to worry about that until he’s gone. I also understand the position UAB is in as a program, but I am not proud of Dilfer or his staff for pulling in FCS level talent after losing half the team to the portal.

I got him as a scholarship player don't know what position though. I'd try him at CB if it gets good publicity.

Don't get me wrong I love the brown commitment, but he was popped for dwi and having a fake ID. Brown was highly rated before signing with Ohio State and has two years, think him and strap in the slot could be huge

Still trying to figure out Gumms situation as there's nothing reported, but Pittman definitely didn't want him back

So, we’ve signed a bust, a rotational player in a mop up role, and an unrecruited d2 transfer?

Wooofff….

Saw one of our support staff say, “Ball is ball….if you can play it doesn’t matter what level you come from. #justsayin”

Yeah, there’s a phenom here or there that slips through the cracks to end up in FCS or D2, but when you’ve spent 3 weeks watching only FCS and D2 highlight tape. You’re not taking into account the level of competition in which your targets are having success against. Now you’ve offered 75-150 of those guys after you spent this season getting smacked around with guys that transfer to your peers, made lateral moves, and some even to p4 schools.

Imagine how much worse it can still get when you try loading up on FCS and D2 transfers.

Don't know what way to go, burned by Birmingham kids, and D1-AA kids.

But I think Jakubec is gone too right?

RE: 2025 Football Recruiting
I felt like I didn’t hear him called on senior day. Having now looked it up. 7 games for him listed on the participation chart. He came in with one year. I’ll move him to Expired list. Good catch.

Honestly, id fill 20-25 of our spots with Juco players. There’d be a talent disadvantage but at least they’d bring grit and fire. That blueprint to build a competitive team was done at this same school.

Participation chart here.

Will correct a few things

Thanks, btw

RE: 2025 Football Recruiting
If the staff is actually trying to win, Juco and portal guys should basically be all we are recruiting right now. Even if you find a diamond in the rough at a d2 or FCS school, you aren’t finding 15, and they might take a year or two to develop.
