MBB @ Marquette Golden Eagles
Monday 7:30 pm central at FISERV Forum (**) on FS1.

Marquette is to Mt Everest what Illinois Wesleyan is to Charles Mound. This Golden Eagle team coached by Shaka Smart is Highly Rated:

AP #5
Fox Sports #5
USA Today #7
ESPN #7
Coaches Poll #7
KenPom #11
the Athletic #2

Some of their players:

Tyler Kolek: 22-23 1st tm Big East, 22-23 2nd team All American, 23-24 consensus preseason All American, 23-24 1st tm all Big East and player of the year.
Kam Jones: 22-23 2nd tm Big East, 23-24 preseason Big East 2nd tm.
Oso Ighodaro: 22-23 2nd tm Big East, 23-24 2nd tm Big East.
David Joplin: 22-23 Conf all tournament tm.

All of the above are on position watch lists for 23-24.

Of the Freshmen Tre Norman was rated #89th recruit and Zaide Lowery #98.

Huskies have a chance if Kolek and Ighodaro foul out early and Huskies shoot 20 of 22 from behind the three point line.

(**) FISERV is an American multinational company providing financial technology services to clients across the financial services sector which was co-founded by Les Muma in 1984. Les was head of the computer services at a Tampa S&L where I was the Internal Auditor. Les backed me to gain membership into Temple Terrace g&cc. Les Muma is worth over 200 million dollars and has donated over 41 million dollars to USF, a good portion of which went to their athletic dept. Unfortunately, I was not offered any of the original stock offering.

RE: MBB @ Marquette Golden Eagles
I’m going to say Marquette is very good but overrated at #5 in the nation and NIU with a healthy Coit and Williams is underrated. The spread is 24.5 pts and I think NIU can cover that

The broadcast says it’s a part of the big east opening night. It sounds like they will be skipping around to different games? Anyone know what’s up

I'm honestly not sure. The ESPN scoreboard, which is always reliable in regards to what channel games are on, has every Big East game listed as being on "Fox App", whatever that means. This is the first time I've ever seen that listed.

We do have the latest start time of all the Big East games (by half an hour as the Eastern Michigan/Butler and Robert Morris/Xavier games both start at 7).

But I'm at a loss as to what will actually transpire.

It says you can watch the game in its entirety on the Fox sports app which I know nothing about it.

Not for nothing but the Marquette website schedule also lists the game as being on FS1.

I guess it's a wait and see what happens kind of thing, which is awesome.

If you have any of The Fox sports channels then the Fox sports app is free to purchase from the App Store. NIU vs Marquette is listed there starting at 7:30. I think the game will be broadcast in its entirety on fox sports1 but in case it’s different games it’s definitely on the Fox sports app. Huskies are 23.5 underdogs!

Neither Coit nor Williams listed as starting in our game notes. I obviously knew about Williams, but, still haven’t seen anything regarding an injury to Coit. If they are both out, this could get pretty ugly.

This is getting to be just like the first few years of Montgomery. All teams have injuries but with NIU it always seems to be with its best players. Burno has said this 3rd year is the year to compete for a championship but it’s very hard when you’re best guys are out!

If you go to NIU athletics and look at story on huskies open season at Marquette you will find Game Notes. The tv broadcast is listed on FS1 as (whiparound) and full telecast of game is listed as Fox sports app.

The Game Notes say "Possible Starters" so I would not rule out Coit as playing. I think we all expect Williams to still be resting but Coit I think is possible. He also could be not listed as a starter and be coming off the bench.

I agree we are so snake bit with losing our best players in men's hoops consistently. Please let this year be different.

I'm sorry, but is this a new thing-- possible starters on game notes now? Has this athletic department been so secretive that it has led many of our coaches to be the same? We already know Hammock follows the same tell nothing policy as STF.

Neither seemed serious from what I saw on Wednesday, would be surprised if either play tonight because why risk it though. I’m not overly worried.

RE: MBB @ Marquette Golden Eagles
Speaking of Coits possible non-appearance, I was happy with Russell's and Lovings-Watts stats. In 30 min Russell had zero turnovers, 3 assists, 9 pts, 4 rebs but zero steals. Loving-Watts in 13 min had 1 turnover, 1 assist, 3 pts, no rebs but 3 steals.
We will miss Coits pts, but Russell will do fine at point guard.

GO HUSKIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Agreed - while as fans we want them to win every game, the path to the tournament in the MAC comes down to finishing Top 8 in MAC play and winning the three conference tournament games.

If either is healthy enough to play you play! Every practice or game you risk injury. There is no more risk playing a top 5 team or playing Chicago st. If NIU isn’t playing to win, compete give there all then they shouldn’t play the game! Shaka Smart is the coach at Marquette so I’m guessing they will be pressing NIU so Russell and the guards will have their hands full

Correct.

Games in November mean next to nothing for a non-P school. December...they start to get interesting and then the games actually matter starting in January.

You guys don’t understand the NIU fans, Alumni and Dekalb/Sycamore potential fans. Let’s say it was NIU vs DePaul or Iowa or Northwestern tonight instead of the #5 team in the nation. If NIU were to win there would be a substantial larger crowd for their home game Saturday. Every game counts and beating a school that people know is much bigger than beating the top MAC team.
