OT - RIP Coach Bobby Knight
Not an IU fan but I always liked Coach Knight and his antics. My condolences to Hoosier fans and the Knight family.
RIP Coach Knight

I’m glad he ended up on good terms again with IU and attended games at Assembly Hall in his later years.

Great old school coach. I wish there were more like him but I'm old and getting yelled at by your coach was common when I was young

Yeah, when my HS FB coach yelled at me by name for fumbling a pitchout in practice, I said to myself, "Hey, he knows my name."

RE: OT - RIP Coach Bobby Knight
I would say that they broke the mold when they made him, but he had perhaps the greatest influence of any Coach on a little guy who won 5 titles in 40 years and put the Blue Devils on the map. Great coach, great teacher and a great developer of other coaches.

When I think of Coach Knight, I think of this old quote from a guy who coached in another sport:

"I firmly believe that any man's finest hour, the greatest fulfillment of all that he holds dear, is that moment when he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle — victorious.- V Lombardi

RE: OT - RIP Coach Bobby Knight
College basketball was much better back in the Knight days. Imagine a team now days dribbling up the court and saying "THIS guy is going to take the shot and there is nothing you can do to stop it."

Guys like Quinn Buckner, Isaiah Thomas and Keith Smart getting it to guys like Scott May, Steve Alford, and Calbert Chaney.

Beautiful.

He’s one of the reasons I watched March Madness in the 80s. RIP. My thoughts are with Hoosier Nation.

RE: OT - RIP Coach Bobby Knight
I actually knew him pretty well. I worked for several years in the IU Athletic department in the ‘80’s. He might have been the most complicated person I have met. He was capable of great acts of generosity as well as forms of cruelty. Often, the same person was on the receiving end for both. I was fortunate in that he seemed to like me and he treated me well. If he didn’t like you….life in that athletic department was going to be rough. One of the things that I found interesting was his passion for history. He was incredibly well read. We would suggest history books for each other to read. Often, I would find out that he actually had read some of the books that I had suggested. I always felt sorry for his assistants. I think those were very tough jobs. One of them, who eventually reached a decent level of head coaching success told me once that working as an IU assistant nearly took away his love for basketball. He was a brilliant coach. I often wonder if he could have had even more success if he could have controlled the extremes. May he rest in peace. Prayers for Pat and Tim.

RE: OT - RIP Coach Bobby Knight
His 75-76 team was 32-0, the last unbeaten NCAA champ.
His 74-75 team was 31-1, losing in the Mid-east regionals to Kentucky 92-90, a team they had beaten by 24 earlier in the season. Kentucky lost in the finals to UCLA that year after Wooden announced his retirement. That team might have been even better than the 76 champs. Only 4 of their wins were by less than 10 points, Kansas, rival Purdue and twice Ohio St.

The 1975 loss came after Scott May broke his arm.

They could have won in 93 had Alan Henderson not screwed up his knee.

Lost Bobby Knight and Denny Crum in the same year. Those two guys started at IU and UofL the same year and accounted for 11 Final Fours and 5 National Championships. Huge losses for CBB.
