Doubt we see them tear down Rollins to put up a deeper endzone facility, so it probably has to fit the general profile it does now. Closing the horseshoe and having a 2nd deck beer garden/event space fits that pretty nicely in my non-professional opinion
Agreed and if you take the bleachers out of the NEZ and look at it, there's actually quite a bit of land there. They could certainly wrap the concourse all the way around and build on top of it more vertically.
And a giant jumboscreen on the very top.
With SRO I imagine our overall capacity won't change all that much.
True. And IF we ever really need to expand to 30-35k I am pretty sure the east side can have another level.
But, that'd be a really big if.
Our stadium is designed for future additions of a third deck (think about 1/3 the size of the current second deck) on the East side as well as the West side (flanking the press box). This is evident in where the current light poles are placed, which are back away from the second deck more than they normally would have been installed and behind the support buildings (restrooms, concessions, etc.). This is so a second story can be added to those buildings putting restrooms and concessions on the second deck and leaving room for a third deck. Obviously, this is a long way away, but the design can accommodate an expansion - not huge, but it can.

RE: Game Thread: Coastal Carolina @ ODU - November 4 @ 3:30, ESPN+
For those who dont listen to the pod, this weekend's game is our annual Toys for Tots drive. With the help of so many ODU fans, we were able to raise over $5500 and collected over 700 toys last year. We are hoping to smash that record. All the donations will go to kids who live in Hampton Roads. There will be collection points in the blue lot and on 49th street. Look for the AAVs on 49th Street. Our collection site in the blue lot will be at our tailgate spot. Just walk towards the tennis courts next to the field at Larchmont Elementary. You'll find us.
For those who would rather donate, there will be Marines and ODU ROTC members walking the lots with ammo cans for cash donations. And if you prefer to donate online, you can do so at the following link.
https://virginia-beach-va.toysfortots.org/
And make sure you get into the stadium early for this game. We have arranged for a flyover of 2 F18s and an Army helo. Should be awesome. Go Monarchs!

RE: Game Thread: Coastal Carolina @ ODU - November 4 @ 3:30, ESPN+
An alarming stat involving ODU sack totals heading in to this week:
ODU's offense has surrendered 43 sacks this year (most in FBS)
Next up in FBS: Colorado (42), FIU (38), Wake Forest (37), Alabama (35), Northwestern (35).
ODU only has generated 11 sacks defensively through 8 games. This is rather alarming too because our defense does tend to blitz and stay aggressive, and we obviously are not getting home much to the opposing quarterback.
Both sides of the ball struggle on the lines, and a lot of it has been poor technique.
On offense, we struggle to pass block. Not all of our sacks are on the offensive line, but we looked very outmatched against JMU's pass rush.
Our defensive line position group has 6 of our 11 sacks on the year. That is simply not going to cut it. Yes, we have had some injuries (Morrison), but this group has tremendously underperformed.
We have not been able to get opposing offenses into long yardage situations frequently. Sacks can help create this.

Our defensive scheme is a 3-3-5. 3 down linemen are not going to generate a huge pass rush, it is not designed to.
When we have blitzed, it has often led to pass completions vs man coverage.
The defensive line is part of the 48th best rushing defense in the nation. As designed, our Dline is performing very well.
Our OL has admittedly had some issues with pass blocking, but most of that has been on the QB holding the ball too long, and less than stellar blitz blocking by RB/WR/TEs
Our run blocking is excellent. We have the 64th best run offense in the nation. The OL is performing well.
Both lines have improved over time.
BTW, #1 in pass rush/sacks in the nation is JMU. We allowed 5 sacks.
EDIT: Oh, and by the way, the 335 is an excellent short field defense as it compresses.
ODU is 27th in the nation in red zone defense.

Run defense is fine, yes. The scheme works well for our best player Henderson to read, react, and clean up the tackles. It is very linebacker/safety friendly. There are other teams in the country that also run 3-3-5s that generate more sacks than we do. We have not had a consistent defensive line pass rusher that could get sacks since Oshane Ximines left. This issue needs to be addressed, schematically and with personnel. This is a byproduct of also being undersized too.
Our O line has surrendered at least 5 sacks in our last 3 games. Our QB has played very well in those games and he has taken steps forward. He arguably played his best game of the year against JMU. He has cleaned up holding on to the ball too long and taking unnecessary sacks.

The 335, or Stack Defense, generates sacks almost exclusively from blitzes, by design. Lack of sacks is usually NOT on the DL.
Our OL is a bit small but our DL is not.
We gave up JMUs average in sacks (5), who has one of the best DLines in the nation, and some very effective supplemental blitzes. No shame there at all. A couple of those sacks were still due to Wilson holding the ball, and other than the first one, the rest were due to blitzes.
EDIT: We played arguably the best game we have played all season, maybe in 3 seasons, as 25 point dogs, against an undefeated ranked team, to almost a draw, ran all over the defense that could not be run on, gaining over 400 yards of offense, and you are still complaining.
In this case not even accurately.
