Game 1 Regent University 11/6
I like what I see from Chase Lowe. He is doing his game and not trying to get in on the outside shooting contest that the other guards are attempting. He can be very effective using his physicality getting to the hoop

Spectating from the bench. He's in uniform, and I'd expect to see him in the 2nd half

We're up 34, but I can't help feeling like we're just being better than Regent tonight. I want to get excited by the quality of the players, but I'm having a hard time seeing anything that looks different from other Fischer teams. Is there anything that looks like it'll work against CAA teams?

Lowe looks good, Williams seems more comfortable this season and Moss looks sharp.
They are hitting 83% FT's so far, better than last year.

Lowe has looked good, and Williams does look like he'll help us not miss Ben Wight. Gabe Dorsey and Sean Houpt look like they'll have nights where they combine for 50. Moss looks ready to go.

We are shooting only 21% this half (3 for 14). Still a little to much free-lancing for me, but that's the offense.

That's my biggest frustration I think. As you said earlier, this is the place to work through those things. The fact that we still have no identifiable offense today tells me a lot about the season.

We have an identifiable offense. It's a motion offense. They try to spread the wings and bring the bigs up for an entry pass option. Off that there are options. They are trying the whole positionless thing. If you have the personnel and execute it can be very effective and difficult to defend. I don't like that we settle for far too many 3s early in the shot clock. We have a number of guys that I'm OK with shooting the open 3. We only have 2 guys that should have the green light to shoot whenever there is daylight.

My impression from this game is that Case is gonna be the odd man out from last year's rotation and that Lemond still has to catch up to college speed. Hamilton will be playing backup to Williams as long as Collier is out.

Luckily Massey has us as a 50 point favorite.

I was less than impressed by that effort. Lots of out of control drives to the hoop and three point bombs, but Regent was so bad that they made it look sloppy. I really wished that they would have played the game more seriously and tried to get more open shots versus launching up shots. We aren't going to win a lot of games if can't shoot 50% from the field against a team that's not even D3 material. We played well on defense which is Dane's signature, so I'm happy with that. We would have scored 100 if we just settled for easy two point shots each time instead of shooting more three pointers than two pointers. Dorsey was 6-12 on three pointers. The rest of the team was 4-21. Time for American.

This is honestly refreshing to read. Dane said in the post game that he wasn't happy with the way we were executing the offense and all I could think was "we have an offense?" Hopefully the execution improves as the season progresses.

This post game quote kind of sums up the Dane Fischer experience. He had 40 minutes to do something about how the players were executing the offense, and instead just talked about it in the post game presser. We saw that kind of effort in these games at times during Shaver's tenure and he was animated on the sideline and pulled the starters. If zablenoise hadn't posted, I'd have never known that wasn't how Fischer wanted the team to look.

He was one of the last 3 players to get into the game. I am told he is talented but need development to get up to College level play.

Lemond is either a 3 start recruit or an athletic guard who needs to dramatically improve his shooting. Both Moss and Lowe look perfectly able to run the point so he has room/time to improve.

It is almost as if Dane is a spectator vs a participant during the game. He seems to save his adjustments for practices and game plans I'm guessing, as opposed to in-game adjustments.

He also seems to work hard to suppress his emotions during games. Up to a point this is good, nobody wants a re-run of Bobby Knight's in-game behavior on the Tribe bench, but an honest expression of emotion to fire-up the team or to get the team back on track when its performance is at variance with objectives could be a positive add to his coaching bag of tricks.

Piling on here, if we are making adjustments coming out of halftime they're hard to notice! I can't think of a single time where I thought "oh Dane clearly said something about coming into the high post, spacing the wing, etc" and it's a big reason why I never thought we're playing with intentionality.
