Saturday, Dec. 16

Myrtle Beach Bowl
Brooks Stadium (Conway, South Carolina)
11 a.m., ESPN and the ESPN App
Bonagura: Coastal Carolina vs. Northern Illinois

Saturday, Dec. 23

Camellia Bowl
Cramton Bowl (Montgomery, Alabama)
Noon, ESPN and the ESPN App
Schlabach: Arkansas State vs. Northern Illinois

Schlabach also has Coastal Carolina vs. Toledo. So whether you’re 12-1 or 6-6 and from the MAC you get the same quality bowl game.

I want to say there used to be a tie-in to the Motor City Bowl (or whatever it's called) in the past to the MAC champion (and a lower tier B1G team???) but that went away and now it's more a roll of the dice on where any team in the MAC might end up.

And is it safe to assume that while this projection has NIU playing Coastal Carolina in the Myrtle Beach Bowl, Schlabach has Toledo playing them in the Camellia Bowl (thinking they will win the SB since James Madison isn't eligible)?

Per College Football News:

Quote:The top-ranked MAC champion will be in the mix for the Fiesta, Cotton, or Chick-fil-A Peach if it's the highest-ranked Group of Five champ - and if it's not in the College Football Playoff.

The MAC doesn’t have a true pecking order. The bowls matchups are based on best possible games and geography.

- Bahamas Bowl vs Conference USA
- Camellia Bowl vs American Athletic or Sun Belt
- Famous Idaho Potato Bowl vs Mountain West
- LendingTree Bowl vs Sun Belt
- Barstool Arizona Bowl vs Mountain West
- Quick Lane Bowl vs Big Ten

To be determined among the Group of Five conferences. MAC will get spots in two of these bowls ...

- Duluth Trading Co. Cure Bowl vs Group of Five
- Frisco Bowl vs Group of Five
- Myrtle Beach Bowl vs American Athletic or Sun Belt
- New Mexico Bowl vs Conference USA
- RoofClaim.com Boca Raton Bowl vs Group of Five

Are the payouts listed anywhere for the bowl games the MAC gets?

2023 Bowl Payout:
Toastery(Bahamas) Bowl $225,000
Myrtle Beach Bowl unannounced
Cure Bowl $825,000
Boca Bowl $900,000
Camellia Bowl $300,000
Famous Idaho Bowl $800,000
68 Ventures Bowl $1,500,000
Quick Lane Bowl $2,000,000
Arizona Bowl $350,000
Frisco Bowl $650,000

The Athletic is projecting us to play in the 68 Ventures Bowl vs South Alabama.

Let's hope we're not not jinxing ourselves for the Kent State game with all the bowl talk. There are no guarantees.

Thanks for providing this. I had a feeling that not all MAC bowl games are the same regardless of record.

to me this is the best possible scenario Ive seen:

"Quick Lane Bowl – December 26 Wisconsin vs. Northern Illinois"

Best payout...biggest name....possible 2nd boneyard win (which I believe NIU has only managed two times.)

Get a victory over Wisconsin and it will change the bad taste I have for this season

RE: Official 2023 Bowl Projections/Scenarios/Announcements
I think someone else said it, but I remember from the years previous, that part of the payout basically goes to cover the tickets we can't sell as the allotment is quite high. I'm sure if we get a bowl like Quick Lane, being able to bus it there saves a lot on costs.

Just my opinion, you take a bowl that is warm for the players. Some have probably never traveled to or will be able to like a Boca or Myrtle Beach and is a recruiting tool for a team that is down right now. More of a destination / vacation.

Quick Lane vs. Wisconsin would be interesting, but somehow I don't see Wisconsin playing there.

I'll feel better about it if we beat Kent State and it isn't a one-score game.

Kent is one of the worst teams in the country. If not the worst D1 team. They're theoretically worse than SIU.

Jeez...

According to these rankings. Not only is Kent State behind 54 FCS teams, but also behind 11 D2 teams.

And we have the audacity to think NIU is down. Just 2 seasons ago, we played Kent State for the MAC Championship...

Ay Dios mío...

Any bowl game predictions of NIU vs Illinois or Northwestern just aren't happening. Just like those schools avoid scheduling us during regular season you can be sure they will let the bowls know to avoid pitting them against us.

From Here on out I can honestly say my expectations will be much lower. I bought what Ham was selling for a couple years. Bought into Lombardi. I’m now selling all of that for the reality I see in the field. 5 to 7 wins a season while Ham is coaching.

I'd lower them more than that. Without Lombardi we went 3-9 last season and we need a QB next year. We definitely can't expect a top 25 defense every year. It's been nice the defense has played well this season, but after 4 years of bad defense I think we need to wait and see if they can replicate the success on defense. After all, we certainly haven't been able to replicate 2021 season.

This year the team won in spite of rocky. As long as the DC stays I think the team will be improved.

I was thinking about all the drops of late and how if Rut stayed healthy we probably have 2 more wins. Him and Rudolph playing like he is now would have been a big difference maker. TH needs to get 2 WR this off-season that can step in and play IMO. Johnson should be nothing more than the 4th/5th WR unless he marries a jugs machine this off-season. He has talent and can get open but can’t catch
