RE: New NIT Rules
That is absolute insanity. The Final 4 last year consisted of 3 non AQ schools. 13/32 teams were from those conferences according to my quick math.(UCF and Cincy were not included in my number) They lost the games, it wasn't because they got screwed.
#1 OK State lost at home to UNT in the region final
#4 Washington State lost at home in round 1
#4 Florida lost to UCF at home in round 1
#1 Rutgers lost to Hofstra at home in round 1
#3 Colorado lost to Utah Valley at home in round 2
#1 Clemson lost at home to Morehead State in round 1
#2 Vanderbilt lost at home to UAB in the region final
Oregon and Wisconsin played each other in the region final as the 1 and two seed. In that region, Liberty as a 3 seed knocked out 6 seed Villanova.
4 seed Cincy knocked out 5 seed Va Tech. 3 Seed Colorado knocked out 6 seed Seton Hall.
Vanderbilt and Michigan met up as the region 2 and 3 seeds.
The issue isn't about home or away, and the issue isn't that it's a bad tournament. The issue is these schools have to have everything and can't even give the little guy a small piece of the pie. So now to get a home game in the NIT we would basically have to be one of the last 4 teams out of the tournament field that is clearly better on paper than any similar P6 school.

RE: New NIT Rules
Those conferences shouldn’t get any guarantees. Let the NET ratings speak for themselves.

RE: New NIT Rules
Looking at the fields of both tournaments from last season, this theoretically changes very little.
Of the top 90 NET ranked teams, only 8 did not participate in either tournament. 2 of those (North Carolina and Dayton) rejected invitations.
Of the 12 Automatic qualifiers with the new format, 3 did not make the NIT last season (North Carolina, Ohio State & Texas Tech)
Assuming North Carolina would have been compelled to compete as an auto bid and following with the at large selection order from last season and the general net heavy invitees:
12 Autos - (3 that weren't invited in 2023 - UNC, Ohio State & Texas Tech)
12 At-Large from last years tournament that fall in the NET range
6 - Reg Season Champions that still fall within the NET range
2 - NEW Invites - Oklahoma & Dayton (Utah if Dayton still declined) (Marshall, if UNC also still declined)
Theoretically a net change of only 5 schools.
In - North Carolina, Ohio State, Texas Tech, Oklahoma & Dayton [Utah| Marshall]
Out - UC Irvine, Youngstown State, Eastern Washington, Alcorn State & Morehead State
This makeup would likely net a change of 3 "home teams" UNC, Ohio State and Texas Tech would host. UAB, Liberty and Sam Houston State would go on the road.
There would still be some shuffling for "hosts" who's arenas are not available as occurred in 6 of the 16 First Round games last season.

RE: New NIT Rules
The theoretical 5 in and 5 out change a ton in my mind.

That's absolutely what it is. Can't have those unwashed G5's cluttering up a perfectly good money making opportunity like the tournament when there are deserving 6th, 7th, and 8th place P5 teams out there.

Straight bollocks. They don't realize the reason for viewership is last year's stunning first round wins by Furman and FDU.
I would rather them add an extra round and ensure all regular season/tournament champs are represented in the Big Dance. This blows.

RE: New NIT Rules
I hate the idea of expanding March Madness further, but it sounds a whole lot better than the wholesale screwing of the non Power teams that's coming.
