We'll see. I highly doubt it. You hope for it.
The CAA, unfortunately, was consistently lowering itself, and this should have been foreseen by all.
Hampton
Campbell
Monmouth (I actually like them, as am originally from that area)
NCA&T (they could be a good add)
drum roll.....
Bryant (that clinched it)
Anyway, maybe we'll get a game this year with the Tribe, but with what Joey put together, prob wouldn't happen anyway.
I really don’t hope it. But I certainly think it.
Amazes me the disdain some of your fans lump in with some of the newer additions - while you join a league with Kennesaw, Jax State and apparently Tarleton in the wings? And your only nearby rival, Liberty, seems to make many of your fans vomit.
I see conference opponents with aspirations for a better product, and the resources and commitment to accomplish it. I see OOC home and away games with FBS teams (Navy, Army, Temple, etc, potentially), that raise the needle beyond St. Francis, Duquesne, Sacred Heart, etc..
Also FBS OOC games with a more level talent pool, and being paid appropriately for those games.
I'll take a flight to a meaningful road game vs. a bus ride to Stony Brook (7 hours this year!) or a long ride to Hampton or a Campbell that has no fans or decent facilities.
Do you really feel that your fine college fits in with Bryant?
There is no perfect solution, but we saw no future in CAA Football with the recent additions.
As I said, "we'll see". Wishing all the best to the Tribe, and I hope we stay connected in some fashion.

RE: Delaware to CUSA
I called Dr. Selig down at ODU to ask him about CUSA last Saturday.
He picked up, but it was hard to hear him as they were hosting Georgia State, fighting for bowl eligibility.
I said "well, I bet you regret CUSA, huh?"
*thunderous cheering from 15,000 fans as ODU wins the game and become bowl eligible on a last minute run*
Selig: "yeah, er, what did you say? CUSA? Sure, it wasn't where wanted to be, but we won a conference title and went bowling twice. You know, the payouts from those games are huge, and the tv contract we've got now is quite substantial."
Me: "But it was a mistake to leave FCS right? I mean at 6-6 you wouldn't even make the playoffs if you were FCS. And the money...I bet you all are broke!"
Selig: "No, actually the school is doing really well--we expanded our stadium, and I don't know if you saw, but we're actually merging with EVMS which will expand our University's offerings and add the prestige of a medical school."
Me: "Ok, but your basketball stinks now that you're spending all this money on football right?"
Selig: "Well, not really. We've had a winning conference record, a NCAA tournament appearance, and consistently been NET 100. Where are you getting your info on us from?"
Me: "Well, I'm pretty sure that anything having to do with CUSA is a mistake. Every program that's spent time there has only gone on to bigger and better conferences. Thanks for your time."
Selig: "Please never call me again."
InfoHound, all the best to UD. Don't forget about us, and please, one day have your AD call ours and send us a lifeline from whatever conference you end up in.

Yikes, that’s putting strawberry jam on a crap sandwich.
15,000 fans? They were averaging 30% more than that as a CAA member.
Basketball? Seriously? They blew up nationally renowned men’s and women’s programs.
Selling ODU to CUSA as a success is just BS.

RE: Delaware to CUSA
Here is the CAA announcement regarding UDs departure. Seems very amicable in my eye.
It does confirm that Delaware will play a full CAA schedule in all sports through next year and be eligible for conference championships.
Hopefully we get the Hens back on the football schedule next year.
STATEMENT FROM CAA COMMISSIONER JOE D’ANTONIO ON THE UNIVERSITY OF DELAWARE’S DECISION TO WITHDRAW FROM THE CAA AND CAA FOOTBALL CONFERENCE
The CAA and the CAA Football Conference received official notification from the University of Delaware that it will be withdrawing as a member of both Conferences on June 30, 2025.
Per conference bylaws the following rules will apply:
Delaware will continue to compete as a member of the CAA during the 2023-24 and 2024-25 seasons and be eligible to participate in all conference championships and NCAA championships.
Delaware student-athletes and coaches will still be able to receive weekly and postseason awards.
Delaware will compete in the CAA Football Conference during the 2024 season, but pursuant to NCAA bylaws will not be able to participate in the FCS playoffs as it transitions to the FBS level. Games involving Delaware will count in the CAA Football Conference standings.
We would like to thank the University of Delaware for its contributions to the CAA and CAA Football Conference, and wish its student-athletes, coaches and administrators all the best during the transition process.
The CAA and CAA Football Conference have recently undergone a significant membership expansion initiative with the addition of Campbell University, Hampton University, Monmouth University, North Carolina A&T State University, Stony Brook University and Bryant University (football only). Both Conferences remain very strong and committed to working together to advance nationally competitive college athletic programs coupled with outstanding academic programs. Going forward both entities continue to be focused on making decisions that ensure a sustainable and competitive model that will allow its members to thrive within the challenges of the ever-changing Division I landscape.

I am also hoping that we (UD) has a FB game with the Tribe, as well as with UR in 2024. It won't count in the standings for us, and we won't be eligible for the postseason. Further, there is an agreement that we can only use 63 scholarship players in any CAA contest.
I say "I hope", but we'll probably again miss you with what Joey D. has developed. A final game in the 'burgh would be great. Sad., but new opportunities arise.

I remember playing Delaware when they were D2 and we were D1 (before splitting D1 into D1A and D1AA). It has been a long rivalry that I for one have enjoyed. I would hope that they remember this and reciprocate when they are the school in the higher classification.

Spoiler alert. They won't. Especially if we are as good as we hope to be. It's lose lose for them. They win and it was expected and gains them nothing. They lose and it derails their season and gets coaches fired. High risk and little benefit in a fbs schools quest for post season $$.

I'd also argue we wouldn't want it. There's a reason we play P5 most of the time - they pay more. So while I know we've swayed away from that a bit, for football I just don't see why we'd want to play a Delaware.

RE: Delaware to CUSA
I’m a big FCS fan and Delaware fan. I’m not particularly excited about moving up but I must admit the Delaware fanbase seems to be more excited than they have been for 20 years
It’s about perception and prestige that is born out of the perception that the games are just more important at the FBS level and fans are mostly bought in on the move …. So be it
I would really like to see “The Burg” come along with us, the CAA is no place to be

Tom Yeager must have visited a voodoo witch doctor in New Orleans that gave the CAA a special power over schools because to me its seems like the CAA is a cockroach that just won't die.

Funny you should say that -- from my confidential sources I have a surveillance photo of a (much younger) Tom Yeager making that trip.

RE: Delaware to CUSA
I guess the excitement in Newark isn’t as hyper as previously thought, at least from the fanbase.
From the UD site:
Wouldn’t count on anything built for a long while according to this article this year was some big financial trouble seems to me like they must be mismanaging some money because I don’t see how they could constantly be in financial woe. But either way, unless it’s really funded by donations I don’t see anything happening and from what I hear we don’t have many donations and they’re still trying to raise the money just to leave the CAA. https://udreview.com/university-freezes ... -pressure/?
