One memory of UAB football I will never forget is Army running out onto the field in 2001, which was the first game after 9/11. All games were cancelled on 9/15, and we played them on 9/22. I still get a chill thinking about it.

And every time a plane heading to the Bham airport flew overhead, the crowd got extremely quiet

For me, that was quickly replace by a feeling of guilt for stomping them. It was definitely an emotional day

Yes, that was a special moment in UAB football history. Another game vs Army that stands out for me is the one up at West Point where there was ice cold standing water on the walkway in front of the stands where we sat, they wouldnt let us bring in umbrellas, and their mascot got in a tussel with Blaze. Fortunately we won the game and but our drive back to a friends home in New Jersey was miserable because it was cold, windy and we were soaked.

Army concession stands ran out of hot chocolate that game. I think it was something like three dollars a cup, but they could’ve charged whatever they wanted for it and paid for an attack helicopter with the proceeds. It was not even below freezing, but 36ish, wet and windy for a few hours will chill you to the bone just the same.

I have plans to go. In 2000 the UAB National Alumni Society chartered the trip and we stayed at the Helmsley Hotel (no longer there) on 100 west 58th near Central park with a boat ride up to West Point and tailgate tents setup etc.

I'm hoping for something similar and not be bothered with all of the headaches and the others logistics of airline tickets, getting to and fro the airport, hotel reservations, getting to West Point, etc

There's a UAB Alumni group trip again this time, and they are staying at the Knickerbocker Hotel in NYC. That trip is a little out of my $$ range, so we will be doing the logistics ourselves....though I would love to do a boat ride up the Hudson.

I’ll be going. Definitely not doing the alumni route though. I’d be surprised if they have many people sign up.

Same. Booked my flight today. I’ll be taking the ferry up to the game that morning.
