Folks in the stands said it was a compound leg fracture. Ouch

Just those words send shivers. Rockytop said ankle. Don't know which is worse but I hope he's able to heal and get back in the game at some level.

RE: UT at Miami Game Thread
Normally, I’d be concerned about the Rockets’ inability to play 60 minutes of good football, but in this one Miami had plenty to do with that. This was the best team on our regular season schedule, so you had to expect that the Red Hawks would make it a game. Would we have lost if Gabbert hadn’t been injured? Who knows. But that 1st half was as solid as Toledo has played in the past few seasons. Still opportunities left for Toledo to put it all together, and perhaps they’ll do so just at the right time.

I was travelling back from Florida at game time and to my surprise, it was televised and my recorder picked it up (programmed to record all UT teams) so I didn't watch it until late Saturday night.

I only mention that because I'm commenting on what I see in the thread that I also noticed.

Very bad marks on the ball all game long - but seems it was only against us. Later gave an incorrect mark to Miami that gave them an extra 2 yards - on the drive that Gabbert got hurt on.

The refs called a couple of holds that were just plain bad calls. NCAA needs to review what is called as holding. Just because a defender falls down when he is engaged with a blocker does not mean there was holding.

Along with the execution or lack thereof.

Case in point. 3rd and 19 and you give up an 18 yd pass

This is the one where the mark was incorrect. His knee was down before he stretched out the ball. replay clearly shows that. They didn't give him the entire stretch out, but gave him most of it.

They had another mark on a pass play the gain big yards. They marked the ball where his foot landed out of bounds. Well that yardage was not gained if the foot came down out of bounds. Generally you try to mark where the ball last had forward progress and was still in the field of play. They didn't do that. Memories of the T.Y. Hilton pass play on 4th and long in the Motor City bowl about 12-14 years ago. Ball never crossed the line to gain while in bounds and Hilton's last step landed will out of bounds - and the ball was marked at that spot. Get it right. Instead, they just look at where the foot landed out of bounds and mark it there.

You might have to explain a 4th and 13 at the 8 yard line....04-jawdrop lol

Broken ankle

That back up was put in a tough situation - exactly why we need to get leads and get Gleason in the game. Work helps when that emergency comes up. He proved himself once again when Finn went down on an undisclosed injury in which he was carted off the field, and hasn't missed a down since then.

10 pass break-ups by 6 different players was pretty impressive performance by the secondary.

Funny, the official scorer credited Culpepper with the forced fumble on the last Miami play, and the press asked him about making that play in the post-game. He set them straight that Woliver made the play. Nice to see him have a good game with 2 sacks in addition to the uncredited forced fumble.

Aveon Smith was the Miami starter for 9 games(5-4) last season.
Passed for 1299 yds/11 TDs and rushed for 553 yds 6 TDs in 2022.

We'll get some major votes in this week's polls. I'd say we need to win the next 3 games to have a legitimate shot at breaking through the top 25.

3 votes in the AP poll, 2 in the media poll

AP: Briggs has UT at 25, Jablonski from the Dayton paper at 24

Reportedly Gabbert had surgery and a rod implanted in his leg. Obviously out for the season. Hate to see any athlete get hurt like that.

Thanks for the update.

It causes cringe. At the same time, it causes awe the things docs can do nowadays.
