Jordan's brownshirts hurting his campaign for speaker
https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-67153625
Jordan can't control his caucus and can't even control his followers.

"...Several Republicans told reporters they had been subject to a pressure campaign by supporters of Mr Jordan, who lost a second vote for the gavel on Wednesday.

Mr Jordan, a right-wing Republican from Ohio, has condemned the threats.

A hardline conservative revolt ousted the last Speaker on 3 October.

A third vote to elect a Speaker may happen on Thursday, and Mr Jordan will need to win around more colleagues in his party to secure the 217 votes needed to win the job.

Mariannette Miller-Meeks, an Iowa Republican, wrote in a statement on Wednesday that she had "received credible death threats and a barrage of threatening calls" after voting for an alternative to Mr Jordan.

"One thing I cannot stomach, or support is a bully," she wrote.

Jim Jordan loses second vote in US House Speaker bid

Don Bacon, a Nebraska Republican who is a particularly vocal opponent of Mr Jordan, provided texts to Politico that appeared to show his wife being harassed by a supporter of the would-be Speaker.

"Your husband will not hold any political office ever again," one of the anonymous messages read. "What a disappoint [sic] and failure he is."

Mr Jordan denied any involvement in the pressure campaign.

"No American should accost another for their beliefs," he wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Wednesday evening. "We condemn all threats against our colleagues and it is imperative that we come together."

"Stop. It's abhorrent," he added...."

I'm glad he spoke up about it, but he's one of the worst when it comes to the rhetoric used towards political rivals. I wish both parties would tone it down as it just incites people to do stupid things like make threats towards politicians and their families.

Yes I did. Don Bacon. I rest my case. This is the guy who tried to go behind the scenes and work with Nancy Pelosi on selecting a speaker, and got busted.

This is stupid though...

Are these texts from people under the control of the party or Jordan?

I doubt it. Death threats are a criminal act and these people would know this.

Are these texts from miscreants??

Likely... and now the only question is... are they misguided republicans who think they're helping and aren't... or are they misguided democrats (or foreign actors) seeking to cause trouble that could be blamed on 'the enemy'?? It's not as if we've never seen that before (cough cough)

Judging from the anger on this board which is comprised of fairly rational people, I think it is conservative activists around the country.

Dems don't need to pile on, all they have to do is sit back and wait. There's no motivation I can see for Democrats sending death threats to support a House Speaker candidate they're going to vote against anyway

No one believes ACTUAL Congress people are texting texts to a Congressperson's wife. Bacon tried to make it sound like that was the case. And yes, an idiot Democrat "Voter" would do something like that. There is a wing of Congressional Democrats that support Terrorists.

And Jessie Smolett didn't need to stage his attack.

I wasn't clear but 'm not suggesting anyone of significance did anything. I'm suggesting that 'miscreants' (people with more mouth than brains) are the most likely offenders... While I realize this describes a whole lot of Democrats, even some in positions of power, it similarly describes some Republicans... but they have staffs who would likely keep them off the edge.

The more likely perpetrator is some 17-25yr old who thinks they know more than they do. I call them miscreants as a result... and they COULD be from either side. The republican would just be a criminal moron to not see the result of his stupid action, and the democrat would be a criminal with some brains... but with the Unabomber's psychosis.
