Preseason Polls
AP:
Marquette - 5
UConn - 6 (2 first place votes)
Creighton - 8
Villanova - 22
RV
St John’s (47 votes, “28th” in the rankings)
Coaches:
UConn - 5
Marquette - 7
Creighton - 8
Villanova - 20
RV
Xavier (17 votes, “31st” in the rankings)
St. John’s (13 votes, “33rd” in the rankings)
League has a consensus top 5 team in each poll, as well as 3 top 8 teams and 4 top 25. 2 other teams already on the radar between the 2 polls. Should be an exciting year!
Have no problem with the rankings. Would’ve liked to have seen St. John’s in at least one poll, but with so much roster turnover I get it. What do you all think?

Not sure I agree with Nova as a preseason Top 25 but UConn, Marquette and Creighton clearly are.
I thought Creighton could have won the national title last year had it offered a bit more physicality and "nastiness." Though skilled and well coached, CU last season was a bit soft.
I could see UConn repeating.
I'm very curious to see how St. John's and Georgetown do with new coaches.
DePaul (sadly) might be very underwhelming once more. It's been the norm for the Blue Demons program for so long that I've lost hope. But I'll still watch the DePaul games on TV and cheer for the team.

I Agree on Nova. Just don’t trust Neptune’s ability to coach yet. Will be pleasantly surprised if they are still a top 25 team at season’s end.
I’m not sure Creighton would’ve gotten us again if we met in the tourney. Thought we should’ve beaten them both times last year. But I agree with your overall assessment, and I’m obviously biased lol.
Would be incredible if UConn repeated. Will be tough without the veteran leadership though. Andre Jackson and Sanogo are huge losses, and that doesn’t even take Hawkins into account. Karaban, Clingan and Newton need to be real leaders for us this year, both off the court and on.
I think St John’s will be better than Georgetown. Pitino is a better coach and he loaded that roster with talent. Think Cooley can and will succeed at Georgetown but it will take time. I’m more interested in seeing how Providence does with English at the helm. They’re a talented team and I think he’s a great coach, so we’ll see.
I really hope DePaul is able to turn it around one of these years. Such a great city for a basketball school to be located in, there’s hoopers everywhere. I think once a team has that “cellar dweller” stigma though, it can be tough to shake and get good recruits. They had that season they were a quad 1 road win a few years back (at least for most of the season, think it was the pandemic year that got cancelled) so hopefully they can at least get back to the Q1/Q2 line. Top 100 NET from DePaul and I’m more than happy
Hope you’re doing well Bill!

Good stuff here, Nameless.
On the DePaul theme, the Blue Demons return only three of their top eight scorers (and two of those averaged only about 5.0 ppg) from last season. On paper, and in addition to scoring, there is not much talent, size or experience. It looks bad. Almost oddly, I long for the days when Joey Meyer was the coach and the program would always get at least 18 wins. Alas, those days are long gone.
St. John's could be rather dangerous (based on what I've read). I like that team's chances of enjoying a solid season.
Fun fact: Of the 15 players on the Georgetown roster, 11 previously played at some other Division I program. The reality of the transfer portal. I could foresee GU being as bad as DePaul.
UConn lost a lot but returns a good bit. Your Huskies will be in the mix for a Final Four trip. And Marquette and Creighton seem ready to roll.
All is good. I trust you are well, too.
