JMU was 4-10 on 3rd down conversions.
GaSo passed for 304 yrds but only had 1 garbage TD at the end.
JMU only rushed for 125 yds and passed for 259 yrds.

I was kind of surprised by the passing yards for GaSo. It really didn't seem like they had that many passing yards. But I guess that is what happens when you throw 3 interceptions.

304 yards passing, with 3 INTs, 3 sacks, 1 fumble and 0 TDs on 50+ attempts?

I’d say the JMU’s D against the pass was pretty darn good. 04-cheers

Nice to wake up early and get to watch a replay of the game this morning on ESPNU from 3-6 AM.

I think we just intercepted Brin again.

Sorry if this was already posted, but one of the only negatives from Saturday's game was that our long streak (can't recall exactly how many games) of keeping opponents below 50% conversion rate on 3rd downs finally came to an end (12 for 21). Given how the game played out, this is a useless stat but just hadn't seen this posted yet.

reminds me of Mickey's philosophy. he was at the game, btw.

- dont get beat deep
- fine if they move the ball between the 20's, keep them out of the endzone
- hard to sustain drives for a TD when lots of bad things can happen throwing the ball that will derail a drive

---- sack
---- hold
---- incomplete that leads to a long conversion
---- interception

they moved the ball, but had drives ended by all of the above

If I were an opposing coach, my takeaway would be that you can throw short against JMU. But really that's about it. Obviously you can forget about running it, but you'll have to waste a few downs showing that you're trying. I think I'd work in a couple plays where you get the TE the ball in space and some WR blockers -- that's about the best way to move the ball. Throw in a few four-verticals and some planned roll-outs to show the defense that they'll have to play the whole field, and you'll nudge your chances upwards.

Centering the offense around short passes, you'll get lots of 3- to 7-yard completions, which usually means you'll get first downs and work your way down the field. But with each pass attempt, you also run the risk of a sack and that of an INT, those windows get smaller in the red zone and you'll end up kicking a lot of FGs.

That's about it.

I'll be honest, I was worried about this game coming in because of our game vs GA Southern last year and the perceived weakness of our secondary. I have never been so glad to be proven wrong. In related news, anyone know what type of sauce goes best with crow?

I thought after his Freshman year he'd have a bright future. Wish he had had one more carry that year. We might have won a NC.

I thought our tacking in the secondary was excellent on those 5-7 yard out routes. We did not let them get to the next level. Ponds and Logan have really improved. Complete win all around. Hope we bring the same effort to Marshall. Go Dukes!!
