Schaffer family shout-out...
At Homecoming in 2022, I finally took the time to appease my curiosity about the only chair-back seats on the east side.

As I approached the family in those seats (in my OwlTails uniform) I said "I'd like to know what the story is behind these seats."

Randy Schaffer asked in return "What have you heard?"

I replied "You're an embittered season ticket buyer who refuses to give up your seats, even though there are no other services on the upper east side."

He said "I like that word" and invited me to sit and chat with him.
I relayed what he told me to David Pillen and Tanner Gardner and said that this is PR gold - you can take the essentially empty upper deck and turn it into a positive story, if the TV cameras home in on them.

They ran with it last week.

Wondering if they let them bring umbrellas into the stadium. They wouldn’t be blocking anyone’s view.

Great story! I loved it when it ran during the broadcast. I'm so glad you sniffed it out, Grungy, and started the ball rolling to getting it told to the ESPNPlus audience.

Why not provide a sun/rain shade / pop-up shade cover? Legs can be adjusted to tilt the cover in an appropriate manner. Again, not blocking anyone else's view.

It was/is a great story! Was wondering how ESPN found about it... and now we know. Thank you!

They’re good fans. They’ve had season tickets in basketball too forever (regular seats there).

He does appear to be a very intelligent person, and a great Rice fan. However I was always befuddled why has got involved in the Clara Harris case. (She ended up serving just 15 years for murdering her husband).

From the Houston Chronicle:

Harris' new attorney, Randy Schaffer, also is requesting that state District Judge Devon Anderson grant an evidentiary hearing so Parnham can be questioned "about the allegations of deficient performance."

Harris' bid for a new trial is her last effort to overturn her murder conviction, for which she is serving a 20-year sentence. Jurors found her guilty in February 2004 of killing her husband, David Harris, 44, in the parking lot of a Nassau Bay hotel after finding him with his mistress.

The case gained national attention because of the different aspects of the case: Harris was driving a Mercedes-Benz; Harris' then-teenage stepdaughter was a front seat passenger; and the scene was videotaped by a private detective hired by Harris to spy on her husband. David and Clara Harris had successful dental careers, with David being an orthodontist and Clara a dentist.

Everyone deserves quality representation in the court room, even if you're a heinous criminal (I know nothing about the case in question-just saying as a general principle).

The video was pretty damning, and it was played on the local news over and over again. Hard to see how anyone could see this as an accident or unintentional. Having said that, Mrs. Harris is entitled to the best defense she can get.

Why do you think attorneys usually take cases?
