Still questionable, especially when you don't own or operate either.

I believe the Grizzlies are against the new $1 seat fee and the 5% TDZ surcharge.

I still think Memphis needs to build an on campus stadium and arena. However, they probably don't have the space for neither.

This is a move to make sure the Grizzlies don't leave Memphis. It's the only pro-sports attraction in town, and it anchors the arena and has a good setup with the Grizzlies and Tigers playing there and booking out the rest of the year with concerts. Liberty Bowl is a move to get a possible Big 12 invite.

That looks like sour grapes to me. They get to play in an NBA Stadium and a top-notch football stadium, both of which are basically next door to campus. A whole lot of schools, including many in the P2, would by jealous of those arrangements.

I don't think it's necessary for Memphis, their situation is unique in CFB. They get HUGE support from their city and have a strong partnership with both the Liberty Bowl and Grizzlies, and the venues are an avg of 4 miles from campus. Schools like Miami or UCLA have an issue with their 20 mile commutes, but a couple miles for such great facilities, while also keeping the entire city on their side, is manageable. They would have a couple of the best facilities in the entire Big 12 or ACC if they were to join either of them tomorrow.

Sounds like these are all proposed new taxes that would require state and and county approval?

State already passed their $350m addition. Yes, the city council would need to approve.

If city leaders try to pull this BS the state should resind the appropriations.
City is already paying the Griz almost $5 million a year to cover the operational losses at the forum even thought the Grizzlies are contractually obligated to cover the losses.

I would not be so quick to criticize the Grizzlies. Pro teams pull the support away from college teams in a lot of places, but in Memphis, it seems that they're both stronger by working together.

as normal you're against the grain of most the Memphis fan base...The Grizz are important to Memphis and UofM grad/Mayor Strickland wants all this set by the time he leaves office in Jan.

Recruits want to visit and play in an NBA arena. There is no reason to have an -on-campus basketball arena.

An OCS for football would be nice, but not feasible.

For one, the LB is very near campus. If you built one on-campus, the stadium would literally be as far from the student dorms as the liberty bowl currently is.

Two, land acquisition costs are enormous and would cost $200million alone, and wouldnt even include a dime for the stadium. (Which would be another $150-$200million with todays inflation)

Third, even if you did all of that for the stadium, there is no ingress / egress infrastructure in place to allow that much traffic in and out of a stadium, and there isnt land available to make that infrastructure happen.
