At this point all other opponents look Charmin soft.
Anything less than 10-2 would be bad.
He can literally lose all 4 of those, go 8-4 - and there are some on here that would be ready to extend his contract and throw him a parade...
If you're at a school with an all time winning rate of .496 and you have a .667 season then 99.9% of those schools will give you an extension.
His ONLY post season win was AAC title game.
Silverfield's ONLY post season loss was with Norvell's last team.[/b]
This is certainly an example of isolating a specific stat to support a point.
Personally, I'll take a conference championship win over a bowl win any day.
His ONLY post season win was ACC title game. How many conference championship game wins do we have in football?
I'll take a conference title win on our home turf over 10 bowl games.
Bowl games are meaningless exhibitions that coaches and players don't even stick around for. An everybody gets a trophy exercise. When 82 teams make a bowl game, it tells you how unimportant bowl games are now.

You're not going to get another Norvell level coach to take this job.
So stop using him for a measuring stick.
Not a single coach in Memphis history would be able to match up.
Spook and Norvell are the only coaches that have stayed at Memphis over 3 years that have a better record.
And only 5 in the entire history of the program have a better record.
Here's another tidbit fir you Norvell NEVER won a bowl game at Memphis.

Smh
How many P5 teams did Ryan beat in all these bowl wins? How many of Norvell’s bowl losses were to P5 teams ?
How many conference championship games has Ryan been too ?
Compare their regular season conference records
We get it Silverfield has replaced Pastner as your man crush

We gave Norvell an opportunity to showcase what he could do. We may not get a Norvell level coach to come to Memphis, but I'm sure that the same search team that helped find Fuente and Norvell, can find another gem out there.

We got Coach Fuente and Coach Norvell back to back. I'm cheering for Coach Silverfield but if he doesn't get the job done, I don't see how we couldn't get a decent coach we a proper search. There is always a man looking to take the next step in his career. Memphis is a good stepping stone job.

No playmakers anymore. Calvin Austin isn't here to save Silverfields. No excitement. No hope for winning league championships. But he'll get you 7-8 wins against a high school schedule.
And did not a Silverfield coached team beat Miss State in 2021?
Seth is a 3rd year QB that is showing plenty of exitement for me, but you do you.
With Calvin Austin's help. Now the well has run dry thanks to Silverfields. No more playmakers. Those days are gone.

I agree. That could hurt him even with having an above .500 season.
Kind of like Tubby winning 21 games and getting fired. Then we find out that attendance had fallen to like 6,200 per game.
I'm fine with Silverfield, so not hoping for him to be fired. But apathy could set in.
Yep. Tubby was also who I thinking about when you mentioned attendance. With RS I want to see Memphis coaches do well as long as they are here so I hope he does well. But it's looking like that apathy may have already set in.

Our SOS currently is ranked dead last. Navy is going to lower that to maybe one of the worst 3 game stretches of the last decade... might be dead last. Reminds me of Pastner

It’s all in front of him. If he wins the next 3 home games he’s in the driver seat for the Peach bowl

RE: For you Silverfield haters
Silverfield inherited a great program. So, winning 2/3 of games isn’t a huge feat. Also, our conference has been seriously degraded and we started off with two gimmes. It gets a little harder from here, and if we can’t block anyone, we’re gonna have some serious troubles offensively. Defense looks good, but it’s too early to tell. Once the competition steps up, we’ll see if they still look good.
But, all this said, unless Silverfield completely tanks it, he’s safe. I don’t see boosters paying him to leave. My hope is he can get it done and we have a great season. He’s probably gonna be here awhile.

All of this speculation changes in the unlikely event we have a conference move materialize.
I don't see him going anywhere regardless of record if we are staying in the American. Why bother?

Its a positive that we have better expectations, but the New Orleans Bowl with Deangelo was not meaningless. The Miami Beach Bowl against BYU was not meaningless. The Cotton Bowl was not meaningless.

What I said ONLY applies to this season.
It just sets up beautifully.
3-year starting junior at QB
EXTREMELY favorable schedule with zero 'tough' games as true road games.
He can drop 2 of Missouri, Boise (home), Tulane (home), and SMU (home) and go 10-2.
A boatload of injuries to key players including the QB would obviously change things.
Other years would be different and have to be evaluated on their own merits.
Trying to imply that the Missouri game is not a tough game because it’s not a true Road game shows at the very least a bias against our current coach

I am not a Silverfield fan, and have said the same thing about his inability to evaluate talent, but with that being said, he did add some transfers who are a notch above the talent he’s brought in the past few years. The RB from ODU, Blake Watson, is a legit threat. I like the WR’s, Dove & Blankumsee, too. Defensively, our secondary is much improved.
Granted, we’ve played 2 dreadful teams & its hard to tell how all this will translate, but we do look to have more talent on the field this year.
