Hoping to get some guys back from injury -Sykes and Dunbar are the main two who missed the first two games. Tyson Thompson also has missed both games. But in general, we seem to have made it thru the first two games okay.

TSU didn’t have their QB (Body) last week. The back-up played some for a decent Furman team last year but he struggled at Toledo last week. TSU was destroyed by Toledo (who is good -defending MAC champs, beat Liberty in a bowl game last year and Illinois needed a last second field goal to beat them this year). Still, you can’t find many silver linings in a 71-3 loss.

Trap game. We covered in the first two games. May not here. I can see this game being similar to this one if we take them lightly.

I HOPE we get out to big lead and can sit JT.

I HOPE Bloom makes sure the guys have their attitudes straight.

I don't think we're at any risk of losing but I can imagine this turning into a high scoring affair if we're not careful. 2016 PVAMU and 2021 TSU games come to mind. Last year we needed some timely interceptions and fumbles to keep McNeese to 10. I'd like to see our defense keep TSU out of field goal range for most of the game instead of relying on TSU making mistakes

Can someone post if they know if TSU QB (Body) is playing or not? That will be the difference in a cover or not a cover as we saw against Toledo last week what happens when 2nd team guy plays.

I can’t find the future football schedule thread but fbschedules.com reports we have added a home game vs. Prairie View the 2nd week of the 2025 season.

We currently have Sam Houston and Army both at home) for 2024, Louisiana and Army (on the road) and Prairie View for 2025 NC games.

Enjoy the AAC opponents because our NC schedule isn’t as attractive in future years (and if Army replaces SMU in the AAC, then that could mean we need three new NC games for the next three seasons.

SMU be the last team I would add. Their attendance is bad as ours.

For those who can't wait for Saturday's highlights, here's the Ocean of Soul's website with videos from dozens of their prior performances ... https://www.tsuoceanalumni.com/ocean-videos.html

At the bottom of that page is this one from 1984 in Rice Stadium!

It doesn't say who the opponent was, but Rice did not play TSU that year. https://riceowls.com/sports/football/schedule/1984

Our first game with TSU was in 2021! (https://riceowls.com/news/2021/9/25/foot...-homestand)

TSU v Grambling

Edit: They also played Prairie View at HRS that year. I could be either.

We should play SMU next year to keep alive our streak of beating teams that have left the AAC.

As long as we beat them this year then I’m good!

My roommate and I talked our way into HRS that fall for the half-time show for TSU vs Grambling. Both bands were outstanding. It was well worth the effort to get in.

Brings back fond memories of one of the years the MOB marched in the New Orleans Mardis Gras "Rex" (King of Carnival) parade ...and we were positioned between the bands from Southern University and Nola's St. Augustine High School (which had nearly as great a band).

We didn't have to play a note ... just sashayed down St Charles Avenue, enjoying the fabulous music around us ... and the generous bourbon donations from the crowds.

Laissez les bon temps rouler, indeed!!

Somewhat OT, but Alabama plays USF in Tampa this Saturday, meaning Rice and Alabama will share two of their first four opponents.

TSU game notes are online. Clay Servin is not listed as the starter. He must have gotten hurt against Houston (or in practice). I didn’t notice anything Saturday. Hopefully it’s nothing serious.

RE: Rice vs TSU
I think most thought we would get through the body bag game and UH
probably 0-2 and again with some injuries to starters that would impact the rest of the season. But hope springs eternal now with a couple of starters about to return and knock on wood everyone healthy. Let’s keep JT upright and safe. In the past it seemed like almost half of our interceptions were off receivers hands, too high or too hard. Daniels throws in tighter windows and has the touch and his passes will make our receivers look better. Can’t wait to see Sykes , Thompson, and more Javoni. Connors and Alexander both have more quickness and twitch than our RBs for awhile. So far the transfer portal has actually been really good for us with guys that start. We have corners that can now play man coverage. Can’t look past anyone, but seems to be the best Defense in some time with more depth. We will know by October.

It's a new world. Especially post-Prime Time, I think the emphasis of recruiting transfers will grow and the emphasis on recruiting HS will wane. The emphasis on winning NOW will drive it.

Sykes looks to be ready to play. Dunbar and Thompson won't play.

Rice looking to go 2-1.

Anybody remember (without looking it up) the last time Rice started 2-1?
Bonus points if you remember the last two years…
