Will the AAC Finish the Season the Top Ranked G-5?
Yes.

As of last Monday (current data as of now) 35 of the 48 component rankings had AAC as the top of the so-called non-autonomous conferences.

With an unspectacular week (including 2-2 vs the closest competition) that consensus will probably slip some in tomorrow’s update.

Next week we have four more head-to-head games against those guys

All 48 components are baked into the formula at this writing and the AAC still holds the pole position. However, results from last season still have influence early in the season.

Yes and it won’t even be close. Year in and year out we are miles and miles ahead of these terrible conferences. Just give us the automatic playoff spot and be done with this charade.

Public polls are fun. 2 ecu fans, OP, and two sun belt fans have voted no so far

It all depends on when last year no longer factors into the equation (and what y’all have done this year)

RE: Will the AAC Finish the Season the Top Ranked G-5?
Not all computers reporting yet, but this is what it looks like as far as AAC versus the Sun Belt:

AAC Massey Rank Average: 85.6
Sun Belt Massey Rank Average: 87.9
AAC (substituting SMU for Army) 88.4

Thin edge, but it's clear there's still some weight on the previous season as the computers don't want to over-react to the early games.

23. Tulane
55. SMU
56. UTSA

57. Troy
61. Memphis
62. JMU
69. Marshall
72. South Alabama
73. ECU
74. Appalachian State
78. UAB
79. Louisiana
83. Coastal Carolina
89. Georgia Southern
88. FAU
91. Southern Miss
92. Tulsa
93. Georgia State
96. Navy
98. Texas State
105. North Texas
109. ULM
111. Temple
116. Rice
118. South Florida
124. Old Dominion
126. Charlotte
130. Arkansas State

The autobid goes to the top school and not the top conference. Tulane is in a good position.

Yes I’m aware of that but having a strong conference with a strong strength of schedule means a two loss AAC team gets in over an undefeated Sunbelt program. So having a tough conference is just as important. Does that make sense?

G5 Conference Rankings by SP+ (after week 2):
1. Sun Belt
2. AAC
3. Mountain West
4. Conference USA
5. MAC

Not the Massey Composite, but a widely respected model. It's worth noting that these models and the Massey Composite will be relatively close all year. I think we're going to see more parady among the G5 for years to come thanks to the P5s ever widening and purposeful gap over the G5. Currently Tulane and App State look like the best teams. I'd give the edge to Tulane when Michael Pratt's in the game.

False……..any metric that has the Sunbelt even in the top 3 is utter nonsense.

Yes, which is why everyone in the boat has to row effectively. There is no room for weaklings.

clt, you underestimate the passionate fan base of eastern Carolina.

They have had their men’s basketball date with utsa circled for months, pirate nation could be celebrating a rare conference win!

I know, cause the Pirates won’t even need OT to stomp App, like UNC did.

If your ranking has Rice at 116, then, respectfully, your ranking is worthless.

Here’s my recommendation:
ESPN Team Efficiency

CFP non AQ autobid eligible teams:
1 Memphis (23).
2 SMU (29).
3 Tulane (51).
4 Rice (55).
5 UTSA (74)

Other Top non A5 teams
Texas State (27)
Toledo (33)
AFA (41)
Georgia Southern (44)
Miami-O (48)
Utah State (52)

The rest of the AAC (sorry, Navy)
Yes, Tulane will move back up once healthy at QB.
