Uva traffic
UVA and the city of Charlottesville has got to do a better job with traffic control and guidance. The worst I have seen. And I have been to a game or two at UVA before.

Yeah that was awful. Fontaine was full and they wouldn't even let us go in to "pick up our friend" that volunteered to work the Fontaine lot(she was standing in a spot for us lol). We went where they were directing us, at one point a cop directed us to go out of the long standstill lane and in to the empty left lane... Turned out that lane went nowhere so we ended up just looking like ******** butting in front of everyone. Then once we got to where we could actually park, no one was directing cars to the actual parking so we didn't realize until we went past. Got directed towards JPJ after that and then JPJ was full and they sent us back towards the deck... We bailed out and parked at Barracks Road at that point.

RE: Uva traffic
We are the biggest game UVA has had in years, they just were not ready for us or the crowd. Bad traffic, few ports Jons, no good parking directions. They just are not use to playing in a big game

RE: Uva traffic
Parking in Hooville has always been an issue, just not enough.

I got into town around 7:45 drove by Fontaine expecting a line of cars and saw nothing. Drove down to campus and dead, drove over by the stadium and still dead. Saw many JMU fans walking out and about. Found street parking on JPA and watched the police have a ton of other cars towed. All in all I had no issues as I got there early, 4 hours before kickoff, I’ve had worse experiences trying to get in my paid parking space at BFS 4 hours before kickoff.

Thanks for posting this. It saved our behinds.

I thought we would be at the stadium when the gates opened, but got stuck on 64 with the Fontaine closure. We went by all of the places I knew to park there and were thinking we were SOL. Just happened to notice the church sign driving by and remembered this post.

RE: Uva traffic
Years ago I went to a UVA vs. VT game in Charlottesville with some friends, and we all got in the day before. My friends told me it would be an epic nightmare trying to arrive day of. I followed that advice this weekend as well and avoided the traffic sh!t show.

RE: Uva traffic
Went smooth as can possibly be. Arrived at Fontaine at 8:15. Plenty of parking and found a great spot, lots of shade, and next to the road where we began our walk at 10:45 towards the stadium. A very appropriate amount of people as we got closer and closer. Practically walked right in and to our seats.

We were in the upper deck, when the rain started, we moved up to the wall at the very top and were almost completely dry, the wind was blowing the rain over us, but then security saw us and said we had to come down. Went closer towards the middle of the end zone thinking there'd be fewer people seeking cover in one of those tunnels. We guessed right. Not crowded at all in our chosen tunnel. Good conversation with an equal mix of Hoos and Dukes. Even had good Internet in the tunnel. Rain stopped we came out of the tunnel and moved closer to the 50 yard line for those final 12:00 minutes.

Dukes win, walk back to the car, ate a couple remaining ham biscuits we'd brought from Biscuitville for our tailgate, got in the car and got right out. My daughter was with us and had the Liberty game to get to (one of her friends is a student and asked my daughter to go with her, with a kickoff of 6:00 pm). Arrive at Liberty dead on 6:00. Daughter jumped out of car and went directly into the stadium and didn't miss a single play of their game. The whole day was perfect and smooth for the BP family.

Reminds me, UVA had tons of free biscuit sandwiches provided by Bojangles for their students. Great idea, those kids tore them up and helped sop up some of the adult beverages in their systems. Kudos to Bojangles! 04-cheers
