From Irvine - Andy Kennedy's new contract approved by compensation committee. Six years $1 million per year this season. $100,000 increase yearly.

One of the cringiest blazer memories I have is being at the Mike Davis introductory press conference and the fans in attendance cheering wildly when Margison said Mike Davis could make a million dollars a year with incentives.

It just seemed like such a dumb thing to cheer for, and the memory only has gotten cringier with time. Hell, My six year old will throw temper tantrums and act like a petulant child for free.

That said, Glad AK got a raise. It changes nothing insofar as his long term employment at UAB, at least as far as having a buyout that would act as an impediment to another team poaching him away, but he's definitely earned the money.

RE: Irvine Interview with AK
In one way, I’m like good, they’re going to make him earn it if he wants additional money. Then I remember he already had a foot out the door and the only thing that kept him here was timing. So, that extension isn’t strong enough to make him consider staying if we have a much better year and he takes more phone calls.

When I say earn it, that means conference titles of some form as well as ncaa tournament appearances(plural). If you aren’t winning enough games to do that or scheduling well enough to do that, that’s when it’s time for self reflection.

I believe he was already at $1M with $100k yearly increases so this is just adding a couple more years on his contract.
