RE: 2 Interesting articles from Yahoo sports - SMU's pursuit, USF's new stadium
So doing a little digging, it's very difficult finding any large cities that are considered "red." Even Dallas, TX or Nashville, TN. I'm of the opinion that the frequency of shootings have more to do with population than politics, but I have no data to assert this as fact.

Our society has a serious screw loose somewhere.
Tuscaloosa is blue?
Yes, look up the mayor - Walt Maddox. He's a -D-ouche.
The mayor means nothing at all. Look at how they vote in general in Tuscaloosa. It's hard to get more red than this. I rest my case.
Governor
Yolanda Rochelle Flowers -D- 14,796 votes or 34.43%
Kay Ivey -R- 26,674 votes or 62.07%
James "Jimmy" Blake -L- 1,226 votes or 2.85%
Lt. Governor
Will Ainsworth -R- 27,058 votes or 81.67%
Ruth Page-Nelson -L- 5,722 votes or 17.27%
U.S. Senate
Will Boyd -D- 15,363 votes or 35.71%
Katie Britt -R- 26,724 votes or 62.13%
John Sophocleus -L- 857 votes or 1.99%
U.S. Representative, 4th Congressional District
Rick Neighbors -D- 2,081 votes or 16.75%
Robert Aderholt -R- 10,028 votes or 80.72%
Johnny C. Cochran -L- 309 votes or 2.49%
Alabama Attorney General
Wendell Major -D- 15,883 votes or 37.09%
Steve Marshall -R- 26,899 votes or 62.82%
Alabama Secretary of State

Scott Hammond -L- 5,434 votes or 16.54%
...and so on. Got tired of copying and pasting, but you get the idea.
The city of Tuscaloosa is reliably Democratic at every level. If you're truly going for an apples to apples comparison, the rural and suburban parts of the county shouldn't apply.

Just trying to keep up with the board:
There are no more spots in the P5
We are behind Tulane and USF for those no more spots
We are a terrible university in a terrible city and we have terrible facilities both as a campus and as sports venues
In spite of having a terrible university with terrible academics and terrible sports facilities we should blame our terrible university leadership for not being in a better conference
And, in spite of being in a terrible conference we should blame our conference leadership for our conference not being better
Just trying to figure out who to blame. And what I have come to assume is that the system is to blame. The system that has Alabama play MTSU, that has UT play Austin Peay as reasonable regular season games yet divides universities into haves and have-nots by conference. In the NFL, Detroit can beat the defending Super Bowl champs, but in college football parity outside of the top 20 or so teams is a myth

Well, you did forget to blame it on the boogie, but otherwise I think you got it.

Plenty of data out there. Can’t separate population (demographics?) and politics from crime and availability of guns. Crime has complex roots and it’s not a nail only a hammer can fix.
Tx is a red state but demographics indicate that it will turn purple within 5 years and blue in ten. Not sure why neither party can grasp the concept of moderation. When either party tries to move the needle to an extreme direction there is an equal opposite reaction. Law of nature.

Keep hoping, Tigerx3. The "experts" and national pundits have been predicting this nonsense for 40 years. Since way before Ann Richards was governor in the 90s. I lived in Texas from '96 to '11 and we heard it all the time. Clinton lost to Bush senior by just 3.5% in '92, national pundits shrieked "It's almost blue". Then W wins by 21 and 23%, McCain wins by 12 and Romney wins by 16. Just another data point to ignore experts, just like we should ignore self-proclaimed insiders on this board. https://www.texastribune.org/2016/11/08/...election-/
Texas Was Once Headed Blue. Now Dems Just Hope to Stop the Bleeding.
Democrats used to have high hopes for turning the Lone Star State blue. But after two consecutive elections in which Texas got redder, they’re regrouping.

The map disagrees.
The map referenced is not a map of election results. This is.

With or without a new stadium, USF is #1 on the ACC’s list once FSU leaves. They must maintain FL precence, Tampa is a big market, USF has a huge student body and good academics. They will get in first despite years of ? & ? ineptitude.

USF is doing what needs to be done. Florida State ain't leaving anytime soon, and ACC would still have Miami. But in addition to ACC, the Big 12 could look for another EST school, also UCF wouldn't be on an island.
