More national pub in USA Today winners and losers article
No respect for NIU at all!
LOSERS:
Boston College
Boston College lost 27-24 in overtime to Northern Illinois, which is awful but not the worst part of the story. The worst part: Boston College lost 27-24 in overtime to Northern Illinois and had to pay for the right to do so. How much would you pay to lose a football game? How about a dollar? Do I hear $5? The Eagles paid $1.1 million to host and lose to the Huskies, which might be the worst return on investment in Boston since the Red Sox signed Carl Crawford.

Talk to the former Nebraska AD, coach and fans and see how they felt paying NIU a million plus and losing. As of today, BC did not fire the coach and AD.

When I read about the BC post, Nebraska came to mind.also. Just think, Nebraska thought they were getting 4 easy home wins when they renegotiated the Soldier Field game with the Interim AD. They are 1 -1 in the series and could lose another 1 in a couple of weeks while pay 1 mil +.
Georgia Tech also paid 1 mil + to lose at home also. By

Correct, a P5 homie showing NIU/G5 no respect, as if it's an insult to post a L to us. We're as good of an FBS program as Boston college more seasons than not over the last 3 decades, of course its not an insult to lose to a similar quality program, just a P5 asslicker trying to put fences up where none exist (accept TV income).

For the past 40-odd years since I attended my first game, I’ve always felt that the directional status in our name unfairly demeans and weakens the brand for marketing purposes. Especially for sports.
Why the university doesn’t aggressively market NIU (just those 3 letters) in promotional materials and press guides is beyond me.

I don't see how this is disrespectful (or a lack of respect). This author isn't saying losing to us was the "Loss". He's saying they payed us over a million dollar and lost. That's the "Loss".
Had we just went in and beat them, that wouldn't be that big of a deal.

Yea I wonder about that too. Maybe that would keep announcers (and referees) from calling us UNI or "northern Illini".

The directional name is a definite marketing hinderanc that other otherwise-similar institutions (Bowling Green, Miami of Ohio, University of Ohio, Colorado State, University of Tulsa, etc.) have the luxury of not having to deal with.

But you also just did it when you said "Miami of Ohio". It's not Miami of Ohio...it's Miami...or Miami University. Not only that, but Miami (University) was an established university about 50 years before the state of Florida was added as a state in the union.
