NIU fall enrollment numbers
Has anyone seen fall numbers?
I stumbled across this article on SIU and their numbers are up for this fall.
https://news.siu.edu/2023/09/090523-SIU-...TSu45hw7Q4
The thing that really caught my attention is a deal with some Texas Community Colleges.

Think NIU usually releases them around 2nd week of September.

Yes, that is usually when they do it. Interesting to see our numbers?

RE: NIU fall enrollment numbers
If I recall correctly, the official enrollment is the number on the tenth day of classes. It is used so that enrollees who don’t show up are not included in the official number.

RE: NIU fall enrollment numbers
Hope it goes up at least several hundred from last fall when the numbers come out. The administration should be run out of town on rails immediately if not.

Freeman has been bleeding students for how many semesters in a row now? Constantly touting new enrollment strategies and annual random/meaningless enrollment bragging points while doing nothing more than emaciating NIU and Dekalb constantly along the way.

Fingers cross they sucked less than usual these last several months.

Filmmaker, you are not blaming STF for the decline in enrollment? Are you not feeling well?

First, the enrollment numbers aren't out yet.

Second ... Freeman, STF ... what's the difference? NIU leadership is socio-political, not academic or athletic, respectively.

RE: NIU fall enrollment numbers
The university is well positioned for more growth, Lane said, and it is on track to reach its goal of 15,000 students by 2030, set in Imagine 2030.

Wow, they had an increase and a plan with a measurable target. What a novel approach compared to NIU. Much like ISU, they will probably pass NIU in a few years.

You and I both know STF is the real issue behind waning enrollment, and that's enough for me 03-wink

When was the "winking" emoji added? I've been hoping for it for a long time.

RE: NIU fall enrollment numbers
Illinois State just announced an enrollment increase and the biggest freshman class in 40 years. EIU is also up year over year. If NIU does not report an increase, it may be the only state school still on the decline.

Isn't WIU in shambles? What about Chicago St....?

Lol, I know I shouldn't compare ourselves to those backwater institutions.

RE: NIU fall enrollment numbers
WIU reported numbers of 7,643 for fall 2022 and 7,073 for fall 2023.
Don't know about Chicago State. Its official 9-7-23 press release only gives %s and no actual headcounts (but says it's up over pre-pandemic levels).

As for NIU ...

Fall 10-day enrollment, per NIU.edu:
2018: 17,169
2019: 16,609
2020: 16,769 (pre-Covid closure)
2021: 16,234
2022: 15,649
2023: ?

Every article for each of those annual September niu.edu press releases started off with spin about some facet of enrollment that was looking up. But when you get down to actual numbers ... you see what you see. Even the slight bump from fall '19 to fall '20 was only +160.

Well, we'll see soon what the fall 2023 number is. Can't wait to read the spin and see if it's different from past years. But, of course, always hoping for some actual good news.

NIU numbers cannot be good if they are waiting until Friday afternoon to release them. Oldest trick in the book. Probably looking at another declines that they need to wordsmith into something positive.

I saw this on the northern star site: but they're claiming enrollment is 14,364. If that's accurate, then the BOD needs to replace everyone at the top and then resign, because whatever they're doing isn't working and hasn't worked and it's embarrassing.

https://northernstar.info/107667/opinion...reactions/

*Edit, I think these might be Spring '23 numbers which are generally smaller than fall, but we'll have to wait and see*

NIU used to have 4k more students than ISU, now it appears they will be 6k less than ISU. Even if that is spring, they will struggle to even get to 15k. Adding that many would be a good start back, but I fear we will be sub 14k now. Just embarrassing.
