RE: The Perfect Rebuild for the Pac 2
The good thing about message boards are we’re not the ones who have to deal in reality. I can live and play in the realm of imagination with others who want to. 04-cheers

So what do you suggest?

To me, the only realistic option for the 2-Pac at this time is either merger with the Mountain West or they join that conference. Slim possibility of football independence together with basketball and olympic sports in either the Big West or the WAC, although that runs the risk of damaging those sports teams, and that option in any event is contingent upon there being enough money in Pac coffers to support the athletic department for awhile. And in a best-case scenario, it's clearly a short-term solution.

The idea of 22 programs joining these two in short order is patently ludicrous, as is the suggestion that the others would even want Army and Navy as full members (football-only is perhaps a different story.) Even 8-10 drawn from a combination of the AAC and MWC is unrealistic given expected exit fees and the timeframe the 2-Pac would need to pull this off within.

They wouldn't want Army/Navy for anything but football. Wichita State fills in basketball for Navy. Some BB school out west could do the same for Army.

As for the exit fees, 2pac has a clause where they can remain a conference for two years with just 2 teams. They would go independent during that time giving the MW teams time to widdle down their exit fees.

AAC teams would require 27 months to get it down to 10 million.

Is it ideal for Memphis? It's better than dying on the vine in a conference that has lost Louisville, Rutgers, UConn, Houston, Cincinnati, UCF, and SMU.

We're going backwards. We're now going to play in basketball arena's with capacities under 3K.

We need to stop the bleeding.

PACIFIC . . . . . MOUNTAIN . . SOUTHERN . . ATLANTIC
Washington St. . UNLV . . . . . . . Rice . . . . . . . Army
Oregon St. . . . . New Mexico . . Tulane . . . . . . Navy
Boise St. . . . . . Colorado St. . . .Memphis . . . . UConn
Fresno St. . . . . Air Force . . . . . UAB . . . . . . . Liberty
San Diego St. . . Wyoming . . . . Georgia St. . . . ODU
Nevada . . . . . . UTSA . . . . . . . .USF . . . . . . . . ECU

FOOTBALL: You would play the five teams in your division, one team from the other three divisions, and one other game from a different division determined by the conference matching highest ranked opponents possible. The Service Academies will be guaranteed to play each other annually. The winner of each division will have a four team playoff to determine the champion. All the divisions are geographically close.

BASKETBALL: Play everyone once except Army and Navy if they choose to remain in the Patriot. 16 team tourny to end the season.

OTHER SPORTS: The divisions will make travel workable for other sports.

You’ve got the top remaining G5 schools, a mixture of private and public, large metro areas and teams with good fan bases.

Pac-12 could take the Pacific and Mountain divisions as shown and stop there. Play 8 conference games for football, 4 ooc games (OSU and WSU will probably need that to play Stanford, Cal, Oregon, Washington, USC and/or UCLA). No need for them to span the continent.

Look at the list of schools the American just took over Liberty. What makes you think Liberty suddenly has more value than any of them? The only reason CUSA held down their gag reflex long enough to add Liberty is because they were desperate. Be thankful for that.

So are you saying that every school Liberty has been in a conference with is not legitimate, to include current CUSA, ASUN and Big East schools, including your own Temple Owls? In my experience we have had great relationships with our conference mates or anyone else who has visited Lynchburg.

Also Liberty has a rising athletic department across the board, regularly competing for conference titles. Baseball has advanced to the NCAA tournament. Mens basketball is one of the winningest programs in the last decade and has made the NCAA tournament 3 of the last 5 years. Football has gone to 3 straight bowls and won 2. We have had All Americans in Track and Field. The Field Hockey team played in the NCAA Championship game two years ago. Our teams are very competitive and we have a budget for future success.

Liberty has an immaculate campus and continues to invest in infrastructure and learning. I’m not sure why you think Liberty is not legitimate. It’s fully accredited, graduates successful alumni, including me and my family. I can’t imagine what’s not to like or respect about Liberty University. And there is no higher calling than “Training Champions for Christ,” as the motto goes.

Temple is a great university and could just as well be on that conference I suggested.
But it’s not neccessarily about Liberty or any other one team. It’s about how a national conference with regional divisions could look very attractive and be successful. Of course I added the Flames. They are my team.

Blessings to ya!

Ohhhh, I see now.03-lmfao 22 posts is 6 years. That dude wasn’t here to talk sports, just to vent his hatred of Liberty University. He was right about one thing, I am thankful for the CUSA invite we received.

* Could easily sub CCU for either of the asterisk teams to gain ground in the state of South Carolina. Please make it ODU though. LOL!
# Could easily sub SJSU for Nevada to keep a large CA market (with no fan base).
