NIU the 100th best team, according to Paul Myerberg
https://sports.yahoo.com/florida-state-p...05611.html
Paul Myerberg of USA Today provides his rankings for all FBS teams.
So many silly rankings. Another person who doesn't pay attention to who the teams beat but ranks teams based on what they did last year or the name of their school.
Some of these you just have to laugh, like Clemson #25 after being completely raked by Duke #31. Clemson was so inept on offense and was never in the game.

If NIU beat Ball State least weekend that would not have moved the needle much in the rankings. Nebraska is #66, Toledo #55, and Ohio #57. Plenty of chances for NIU to win and move up over the coming weeks.
Few of these rankings are based off wins. Ohio #57, who have they beat? Who did Nebraska beat to be #66? Why is Clemson above Duke? That game wasn't competitive and Duke rolled them. Florida St should be #1 after destroying LSU. Of the big schools to play a game they were the only ones to play a ranked opponent.
Is Boston College only #116 because they lost to us? That's a real slap.

These "rankings" are about as reliable as listen to a couple guys in a bar talking football over beers. The BCS ranking are like that.
Some teams fall for not winning "by enough", some rise dramatically for one upset win (Colorado), others are ranked high/low because of last year's performance.
It's like if some teams don't win by the spread they're penalized, even though they won, which is the "style points" you hear about. We were 30 point dogs (i think) to Ohio state in 2015, and they only won by 7.
So theoretically they should have fallen dramatically, which is ridiculous. They had a bad game, NIU had a good one, but still lost. Ohio State still went on to win the BCS championship that year.
At least Massey tries to quantify things with the SOS and other factors.

These rankings are absolutely F**ked! I do not know if we could beat Arizona State or Stanford who are ranked below us and on the other hand Toledo and Ohio who are ranked #55 and #57 would definitely get rolled by numerous teams ranked below them like Michigan State, Auburn, Missouri, Virginia Tech, Arizona, Arizona State, Louisville, West Virginia and Baylor.

But you must remember that Toledo almost beat the mighty Illini!! That alone would put them above most teams!
Also, Ohio beat a big-time powerhouse in LIU.

Meh, so many people are high on Illinois, except they lost their DC which won them all those games last season. It's not like they are an offensive powerhouse. Illinois usually has a good season once a decade. Their problem is they've never had sustained success. They could lose to Kansas next week.
