9.1M Viewers watched FSU vs LSU

That's a great number to put into your realignment portfolio.

Quote:Sunday’s LSU-FSU college football game averaged 9.1 million viewers on ABC, per Nielsen fast-nationals — up 20% from the same matchup last year...

...Overall, Florida State’s blowout win — which peaked with 10.3 million viewers — delivered the third-largest Labor Day weekend audience since that 2016 game.

It’s why I push back against the notion of a “sports rights bubble”.

The middle and lower tier sports properties may be losing team, but the top sports properties are the ONLY types of programs that can draw this type of audience on television at all anymore. As long as there is a valuable market for the ability to show ads to a large audience at the exact same time, the top sports programs will have disproportionately high value in the marketplace.

"Good morning President McCullough and Athletic Director Alford. This is Commissioner Sankey. Just wanted you to know we're aware of the TV ratings for your game with LSU. I will definitely have those figures front and center when we move forward with, ummm ... is anybody else in the room right now? This call isn't being recorded, right? But you gentlemen know what I'm getting at"

The NFL is going to look at those numbers and say, Damn, maybe we should move 1 or 2 of our week 1 games up to Sunday and Monday on Labor Day weekend.

2 top 10 teams in a great exclusive time slot. Not surprised of the numbers.

Its a monster number, FSU should be proud. I like that FSU is sharing their viewership numbers on their own social media page. This will continue to inform the masses how important viewership is in realignment.

2022 ACC Championships game only got 3.47 M Viewers that feature 2 of the bigger ACC brands in Clemson vs North Carolina.

That's a pretty big gap.

Lots of fun to start the season -

Colorado over TCU

Duke over Clemson

FSU/LSU

Watch the ratings increase as new teams other than Alabama, Clemson Ohio State are leading college FB

Also, let's discuss -

If you had to bet on a team right now to be a top 5 team in the next few years, it'd have to be Colorado (what transfer isn't gonna want to play for coach Prime?)

I predict that the P2 thinking they can game the system may not work out as planned

100% I think the expand playoffs and the sports right bubble will mean less FCS vs FBS games.

"Notre Dame’s rout of Navy was easily the most-watched game of week zero with a 1.9 rating and 3.56 million viewers on NBC," should be interesting to see the TSU vs ND tv rating

With a zillion other things for people to do/watch, I'm not sure why anyone wouldn't be impressed in getting 9.1M viewers with a peak of 10.3M. That is a lot of eyeballs committing to the game. And this is with a certain blackout situation in FL, that I imagine had a negative impact.

Did they expect it to break the all-time regular season record of 17M viewers for The Game last season?

There's a big difference between a saturday afternoon obvious mismatch and prime time on labor day weekend with a football starved nation tuning in.

I thought that just went without saying.

Well, on the big flip side, ABC wasn't available to ~15M Spectrum subscribers. Beyond that, the numbers stack up very well against other games at enviable day/time slots. And one last thing...this game attracted 20% more than last year's same matchup. Impressive...most impressive.

I guess we will compare it to Clemson vs Duke when that number comes out.

I'd expect FSU-LSU to outperform it.

RE: 9.1M Viewers watched FSU vs LSU
I think most FSU fans (and TV executives) look forward to the day when we're regularly playing teams like LSU as part of an SEC schedule. Certainly was nice to have this matchup the past two years to brighten up our drab ACC slate...and if we're still in the ACC we've got Bama coming up in 2025-26 and Georgia in 2027-28 as OOC games.
