RE: STR--Mike Norvell
Florida State has always been one of my favorite non-Memphis teams. That run from something like 1988 - 2005 where they finished the season ranked in the top 5 was impressive. The war chant and the flaming spear are classic traditions. It is easy to continue to root for them now that Norvell is there.

My youngest daughter is now a student at FSU. I'll be in Tallahassee the first weekend in October for Family Weekend, and will be at the Seminoles - Virginia Tech game. Can't wait. FSU plays Southern Miss this Saturday and guaranteed they'll have a sellout.

I live in Northwest Arkansas where Razorback fans are everywhere. They had almost 80,000 fans last Saturday for a game against Western Carolina in 90+ degree temps. My oldest daughter attended Tennessee from 2016-2020 and even though they sucked, the Vols had 70-80K every game, even in horrible weather.

I will bleed blue and gray for the rest of my days. That being said, it's hard not to be jealous of the support other teams get.

I'm not sure he would have left us for Arkansas. His agent could have used that to squeeze a bit more from Memphis.
Yes, Arkansas is a P5 job, but the life expectancy for a coach there isn't all that good. I expect Arkansas to fall flat on their face now that Kendal Briles left as offensive coordinator.
Their leading RB gained 42 yards on 15 carries against a really bad Western Carolina squad.

Arkansas would have been Norvell's Waterloo as a coach.

The ACC is open this year...no reason for Florida State not to win it.
Duke beat Clemson 28-7.
I'm still in shock....Clemson has slipped BAD.

Rumors kept him from getting the Arkansas job. He would have taken it and he would have killed it there, or as good as anyone can in SEC West or future schedules.

I know for an absolute fact he wanted the job and was ready to accept it. A certain large booster was dead set against him and was able to convince another major player or two to not be on board with him.

A major part of the attraction of the Memphis job was getting his family closer to his wife's family in Arkansas. Her family is in Fort Smith and NWA and he has had a lake house on Beaver Lake (NWA) for a while. They would have been very happy to be within an hour of all of her family...

He was only going to take a better job , or Arkansas— he grew up liking Ark

The reason he did not go to Ark was on Ark not on Norvell — he wanted the job

Abusiing USM tonight. He inherited a mess and had a lot of trouble his first year with a bunch of butt-hurt left over Taggert players but he's got it rolling now.

Norvell finally had his playmakers. An elite level QB in Jordan Travis, two very good running backs in Benson and Toaflili, Bell is the TE that can catch, Spann, Wilson, and Coleman are the elite wide receivers that can catch the ball on 1-on-1 opportunities. It just took time. Sucked for him because I know a lot of Florida State would rather have Deion Sanders when Norvell was in year 2 and struggling. Just glad Norvell was able to go through some adversity and battle his way through that.

It's also cool to see him, Will Hall (Southern Mississippi), Kenny Dillingham (Arizona State), and Dan Lanning (Oregon) all become head coaches. I do believe they'll succeed at their schools. It'll take time for Hall and Dillingham. However, Lanning should be able to be a force in the coaching tree for years to come in the Big Ten.

As long they continue to adjust to adapt to the today's standards and version of the game, they'll be fine!

Norvell interviewed for the Arkansas State job two years before we hired him in 2015.
