CUSA Spirit Travel to Road Games
Was asked in the Sam Houston community if CUSA spirit squads and/or bands travel regularly in the league.

Anyone have insight?

I do believe MTSU brings their band up to WKU and we send ours down to MTSU. I've seen WKU's cheerleaders and mascot at various games (but not all.) I've seen WKU's band at our "money game".

I hope we'll send our massive band to MTSU. That's our closest road game this year. Next year, I want them to make the trip to Kennesuck's Fisher Price Stadium. And whenever we make the return trip to Southern Miss, they should go.

I should have said we’ve done it to WKU so maybe JSU and KSU for us but that would likely be all.

RE: CUSA Spirit Travel to Road Games
UTEP used to send its band and cheerleaders to Texas road games in the WAC and C-USA 2.0/3.0.

Sam Houston will probably be the only school UTEP will send the the band and cheerleaders. Maybe Louisiana Tech. Other than those two, I don’t see the benefits cost wise.

P.S. I don’t count NMSU because they’re basically a local game so both schools will send their bands and cheerleaders when they play “on the road”.

Sam Houston and LaTech will almost certainly send bands to each other as this potential rivalry develops

RE: CUSA Spirit Travel to Road Games
Jax State's band has MTSU on its travel schedule, so that's a definite for this season.

They'll ALWAYS travel to Kennesaw State.

They'll probably make an effort to go to WKU in coming years. It's not a terrible distance, but it will likely only happen if the game falls on a Saturday.

I don't realistically see Jax State traveling anywhere else in conference, except in crazy rare circumstances. (They'll almost certainly travel to the CUSA championship game when/if we ever make it that far.)

Sam Houston is only sending a band to Air Force game at NRG; not even sending to Houston for Cougars game. I don’t believe your above statement is accurate.

Do you have this from assumption or from source? We even sent the band to A&M....I understand no cheer bc our cheer director is a complete idiot who hates football. But band has more spirit than our students, gotta send them

Liberty always send cheer everywhere for football. The band will likely only be at home games this fall. If the WKU wasn't on a Tuesday, perhaps that would have been in play.

LA Tech usually send the band to one away game each year. Already used on the SMU game (not that it helped us any), so doubt they'll travel to any conference games. In the future, the only conference game I could see the BoP being sent to is SHSU.

Agree. I am curious if those midweek games would affect the cheer squad as well. Guess we'll have to wait & see.

RE: CUSA Spirit Travel to Road Games
Former Liberty University Spirit of the Mountain marching band member here. Usually, the band goes to 1 away game a year, plus the bowl game. Usually the band goes for an away P5 game...but since we don't have one of those this year, I do not know.

(Kindof ironic...back in the late nineties...LU was in financial difficulty...In 98 there were only about 55 people in the marching band...but I went with the band to like 3 away games that year...I guess cause we were so small we could basically pile into a bus, haha)

The midweek games will definitely limit Jax State's band. As I mentioned, they're traveling to MTSU this season, and Kennesaw is a definite in future years, but that's probably all the traveling they'll do for midweek games.

WKU is a possibility for Saturday games, but the kickoff time will probably factor in. If Jax State can find a high school contest to march in exhibition before or after the game, then we'd get enough bang for the buck they could justify the expense. But if the game falls in the 4 p.m. range, it's probably going to eliminate most exhibitions.

FYI, given the enormous size of the Marching Southerners, a trip to our game against South Carolina would've cost more than $200,000. So no band at the Battle of the Gamecocks this November. But you see why we'd be looking for multiple performance opportunities for any longer trips. It's freaking expensive.
