What do we do? Accept it and stay in a spread out AAC that will be worse than the old CUSA? Go Indy in football and join the BigEast in everything else?

I’ll say this and I’ve been predicting it for a decade now. When the power structure breaks off they will be taking the BigEast with them because they need those teams and markets for basketball. It’s time for Memphis to get in the BigEast and either go independent in football or seriously consider dropping football altogether. Or maybe put it in the sunbelt.

Some of y’all may laugh or hurl insults. I’m as hurt for our university as anyone. It’s just time to accept it and move on.

I have no interest for college football anymore.

Sorry, but it’s not OVER until the ACC loses its top brands. We were never getting into ACC until that happened. CalFord are just buying themselves time for their next chance at B1G, & everyone knows the top of the ACC is just just taking the quick easy money bump now & will immediately jump once they have to fully share the ACC pie & they can afford to pay the fees to break the GOR & get paid their full market value in either SEC or B1G. Neither the ACC or B12 will get SEC or B1G level money, so there will still be ongoing realignment into the next decade it appears.

While it’s disappointing to see another conference member move while we are still left waiting for our opportunity. I do think the ACC’s move will allow them to survive & reload when the top brands leave, unlike how the PAC refused to expand or make moves to ensure their survival.

It isn’t just another conference member. It’s now seven of our original American athletic conference teams. Gone. Us, passed over. Time after time. We are not wanted. I’ve accepted it and I’m moving on. I’m not giving any more space of concern to it in my life.

Anyone who has followed me and who knows me, knows there’s not a bigger tiger fan than me. And that I spent the past 20+ years coming up with scenario after scenario, that would have us in a better conference. I will always root for them and support them no matter what. But I have accepted that we are inevitably on a downward conference spiral towards the sun belt.

It isn’t just seven of our original AAC members gone and leaving us behind. It’s most of the former metro conference as well that has moved on.

Time for Memphis to move on. I would not put 300 million or even 100 million into the Liberty Bowl. Invest it in becoming a better college of higher education. Give it to the public school system in Memphis and help them recruit better teachers.

It has been proven time and time again. It does not matter, it will always be a moving target in regards to why Memphis is kept out for the latest round of expansion. Time to accept it. There is not even a scenario best of the rest conference that could be put together that will salvage the conference predicament we are in.

Aresco in my opinion is possibly a worse conference commissioner than what the Pac 12 has. How people have not seen it is beyond me. How stupid it was to add half of conference USA. It is going to be the doom of this conference. As we sink even below the sun belt.

We’ve done that to. To no avail.

Not consistently. One outright conference championship in football, one conference tournament in hoops with a couple of NCAA first-weekend exits...that is not quite domination.

No one in the AAC dominated the conference in terms of football championships. UCF and Cincinnati both have two conference championships, but both of them and Memphis were in the championship game 3 times each. No one cares about basketball when it comes to conference realignment.

Everyone thinks playing basketball inside the FedEx Forum is a tool to get into a P5 conference, and it's not. How many teams across college basketball play all of their games inside a NBA arena? Marquette is the only one I believe. Georgetown, Villanova, and St. John's does as well, but that's only part time/marquee games for them.

Memphis has little to nothing to offer when it comes to conference realignment. Doesn't help when the academics are poor, and the city of Memphis is an unattractive place to live.

That’s a lot of facts right there.
It’s sad. The city was so much better 40-50 years ago. It could have been a contender. Instead it went down the toilet.

We can’t sit around and hope. We have to decide where we want to be 25 years from now and make it happen. If that means taking risks, so be it. Our problems now have nothing to do with stadium location and everything to do with a lack of vision 25 years ago. Oh, and the city was no better or worse 50 years ago.

What are the exit fees with the full 27 month notice? Is it $10M

If the MW reverse merges with the PAC2, keeps the PAC name, and then adds 4-6 Central time zone schools from the AAC you don't think the TV money would be $8-10M?

And that conference - if it happened would easily be THE best G5 every single year.

Lot of things would have to come together. The PAC has NO TV deal currently for 2024, we are already past 27 mos & $8-10M isn't much better than now. I get yah but it doesn't seem like it's worth it, especially considering the exit fees.

I'd rather be in the for sure best G5 and then sure, when the ACC gets picked over by the SEC & B1G and they decided to backfill with Memphis then you just go.

There is no loyalty, there are no rivalries, there's nothing to stay for if there is even a little bit better option available.

I don't know if the nPAC is going to turn around and look at an Eastern expansion or not. Aresco is done so - if it is going to happen Memphis, Tulane, UTSA, etc are going to have to reach out and make it happen.

If it could happen then before it does the TV money would be worked out in advance. No TV money = no dice but staying in the AAC seems like a horrible idea if there's a chance to put together a workable 'best of the rest' conference with the nPAC.

meh, lots a noise here, I enjoyed going to the game and seeing the faithful last night. I call 26k damn good.

Looking forward to being one of the big dogs in the G5.

Can't wait to see what some of these perennial winners do when they can't compete and can't grow their fan or recruiting base in the current dystopian conf structure (and absurd geo challenges). Winners gonna be mediocre and the mediocre teams are gonna cave. You wanna win, come see us.

Always gonna be conference drama.

We'll see ya at tiger lane.

I see that but also recall how ESPN screwed the AAC right out of it's formation with a better FB conference than when the BE turned down the last BE FB contract. I could be wrong on my recollection, but what did the AAC first contract provide? $2M per school versus the expected $21M in the BE? ESPN had the AAC over a barrel & we got screwed. Even in the current contract we were low-balled. I'm just thinking we'd need to know the details of the media deal before a decision could be made. But don't misunderstand, I'm all for bettering our position, wherever & whenever that is.

Been saying for years ACC is our best hope and I continue to believe that we can end up in the ACC....

but I fully understand the tens of thousands of Tiger fans who are getting demoralized and giving up on us making a good conference. That has nothing to do with their fandom. It has everything to do with seeing the Tigers getting the shaft over and over again for their entire lifetimes. Whenever something good happens, you can guarantee several bad things will follow almost immediately.

either way.. once FSU/Clemson/UNC and possibly more jump to the BIG/SEC, we will be moving to the ACC. You can book it.

Yep, & people misunderstand the difference between giving up on ever getting into a power conference versus giving up on the Tigers. I don’t think I’ve heard anybody in this thread or on this board say they are giving up on our Tigers. Morons are going to troll though.

either way.. once FSU/Clemson/UNC and possibly more jump to the BIG/SEC, we will be moving to the ACC. You can book it.

The most demoralizing part is it is the city that hangs around our neck like an albatross and there’s not anything we can do about it.

Yep, & people misunderstand the difference between giving up on ever getting into a power conference versus giving up on the Tigers. I don’t think I’ve heard anybody in this thread or on this board say they are giving up on our Tigers. Morons are going to troll though.

There are definitely some people here that have advocated just shutting down football.

I’m not for giving up. Put the money into the LB for once. Let’s at least have a better gametime experience.

We haven’t done our part. We had some great years, but again, while every other program built new or spent millions on upgrades, we built an IPF. It always comes down to support of your programs. Maybe the LB reno is too late, maybe it isn’t. But the moneys there, we just need to hope the city puts it into the LB (instead of the FEF).

But you’re right, Aresco just sucks and is cashing a paycheck. No vision, just picks C-USA team from a large city. But he isn’t dumb either. He added 6 losers and that alone will make it impossible for the AAC to disband. Exit fees are keeping us from a new PAC and joining OSU, WSU, Tulane, USF, and a couple of others to re-invent the conference. It would be the 5th best conference. Now, it looks more likely that they will join forces with the MWC and undoubtedly be the 5th best. One may argue that we’re not even 6th. And as bad of a football conference it is, it’s even worse in basketball.

Again, it’s time for some leadership here. Someone with some vision and maybe take a chance. We are in the dung heap now, so why not?

Quitters never win and winners never quit, BIGLOSERtiger.

Correct. We keep hearing it's all about money. Money, money, money. That is 100% true.

But Memphis is now such a disaster that money flows out of the city as fast as it can.

For sure Aresco wants to collect his check but I think all he can do is advocate. ESPN owns our rights & they have to want to expand the AAC or reorganize a best of conference. Aresco made the best pitch he had to the PAC-2/4 but ESPN had other plans for Stanford & Cal & ESPN had no apparent interest in WSU/OSU, especially if it meant paying out more fees & competing against games & conferences they already own. And playing out more would be required to make the additions financially attractive & viable to the AAC
