Let the Pac name die
If the Mountain West is successful in getting WOSU, not the other way around, they should tell their new mates that the PAC name should be left to the same fate as the SWC and Metro.

Do you agree?

Nope. Fits better than Mountain West. And MWC is only 25 years old and its 3 biggest powers of the early years, BYU, Utah and TCU, will now be in the Big 12. Half the conference have only been there a dozen years or so.

Which is 12 more years than they have been in the Pac-14.

Whatever conference shell is used, the Mountain West name has less mud and blood on it. Take the last two years of CFP money, the A5 designation, the better NCAAT shares, but drop the conference name that is being abandoned by 10 other teams next Summer.

RE: Let the Pac name die
The 11 full members of the Mountain West had an average tenure of just under 17 years in the WAC (this becomes just under 20 years if you include Hawaii). The average tenure of the Mountain West members (including Hawaii) in the Mountain West will be just over 19 years as of July 1, 2024.

Oregon State and Washington State have no connection with the WAC or Mountain West. They have been members of the AAWU/PAC 8/10/12 since 1959. The WAC formed 3 years later and the Mountain West is 40 years younger than the Pac.

I would still lean towards using the Pac 12/14 name.

I expect the ACC - or more accurately, Boston College, Wake Forest, and maybe a couple of others - to take in the American Athletic more or less in its entirety in 2036, possibly sooner if the GOR can be defeated. If Stanford, California, and/or SMU can't find landing spots in the SEC, B1G or XII, they may wind up in the PAC.

The MWC was founded in blood! The Airport 5! Then the raid to kill the WAC. Lots of mud.

If the MWC survives they have to get rid of the hideous Dr Who like conference logo.

Time for something new. But it's always fine to honour history.

The Grand Pacific

The Pacific West

No numerals in the name. As we all know by now, that's tempting Fate.

And we need a 60-year moratorium on 'big.' It's way past time we all pull out a thesaurus. I like 'grand' for this gathering of schools, as so many area place names feature the word. 'Grand' catches the flavour of that part of the country. It invites us all to think and dream... grandly.

Let 'em have the name. It would be no more of a farce than the current league calling itself the Big East.

How about the Coastal Conference?

Correction: The Coastal Conference with SMU (Hey, nine years with no TV revenue, can we at least get something?)

Oh come on. When you think "Big East"... does Creighton come to mind?

It should be called the CYO.
