Yep, Fred pulled back a lot after the Big12 debacle.

There is no big football booster that can provide a huge hit. They do not exist. It's a collection of people trying to help out. Outside of a salary cover for RS.
Don't confuse Fedex vs Fred Smith. One is good branding in a community where the corporate HQ is which would be true if FedEx was in Little Rock or Nashville to help bolster the market for current and future employees. The other is personal, for which there is not a huge attachment nor passion enough to jump in at any significant level.

This!! Let's get out of the AAC and head to the Pac2 along with Tulane. Us and the rest of the best will make it a better conference than what we're in now.
Yea the AAC isn't moving west but why can't we and Tulane? enough of waiting on incompetent Aresco. Let's be our own mover's and shakers

It could work, but we have to see the money first. Hard to make assumptions with no media contract to dangle.

The money for the upper tier conference (new PAC) would certainly be more than currently. You'd have the best G5 programs and some decent markets, plus get the national coverage as a "P5" with CFP access.
The money for the lower tier (relegated MWC) would likely be less than the current AAC. So the trick is you can't finish in the bottom 2 slots in the PAC (I'm looking at you, Silverfield).

If this relegation experiment works out for the PAC, then the B1G and the SEC would be in a race to fill out their "feeder" conference. You'd have to think that the AAC would be the most desirable conference left.

The proposal included in the article says they would need to add 2 to get to 16 total. The piece mentions North Dakota and South Dakota as 2 possibilities. Would you rather have them or Memphis, Tulane?
To me the question would be what to do with other sports. BB and FB could handle this. I don't think anything else could right now. We would need a more eastern pod, or find another home for other sports. Maybe this could be fb only and everything else could explore the BEast.

I guess never say never, but the MWC commissioner and the Pac 2 leftovers have indicated they don't want to or can't afford to do the extra travel involved with going this far East.
From all I see, we aren't involved in the MWC - Pac 2 discussions.

Still reading reports indicating that OSU and WSU are going to continue to try and hold the departing members hostage over their share of the conference treasure chest. One thought is that the schools joining the Big 12 will pressure the Big 12 to add OSU and WSU. If that happens who knows what is next. No conference is going to stay at 18 teams for very long. Needs to be 12,14,16,20 or 24 to make it work smoothly or somewhat smoothly. So the Big 10 will grab 2 from the ACC at some point and then the SEC will grab 4. The Big 12 will want to be at 20 also so it will be interesting to see what other 2 they invite. Do they go west again and grab SDSU or Boise or do they look our way and grab a couple of AAC teams. Or do they go back after UCONN and grab one other team. Long shot for us. It seems crazy to say, but when the ACC gets raided that is our best shot at a decent conference. You will likely still have Pitt, Louisville, Georgia Tech, Syracuse, NC State, Wake Forest, SMU, California, Stanford, Virginia Tech and then maybe Miami, Duke and Virginia depending on how things go. The biggest targets for the 4 SEC spots and 2 Big 10 spots are: Florida State, Clemson and North Carolina...so who will the other 3 be. Will Notre Dame finally yield? Anyway, a blown up ACC is our best hope probably. Gosh I am tired re-reading all of this....Sorry!!

The PAC-2 were certainly in initial discussions with Aresco. Not sure really which side pulled the plug on that. The MWC certainly can't afford to come east. They make a good bit less than the AAC. But this proposal would leverage the PAC money and CFP to make going east much more feasible.
But again, it would have to be fb only or fb and bb. No one outside of the B10 and SEC can afford to fly the volleyball team across the country one day, and the tennis team across the country 3 days later.

We have to fly to Philly and ECU already. We were going to UConn before that. Is it really that big of a difference to fly to Denver or Laramie ?

Imo, we were willing to fly. Aresco went out to meet with the Pac 4 in August to try to sell the deal. But now Oregon St and Wash St with the MWC aren't willing. That's why Aresco suddenly issued the "AAC will not look westward" statement and we started hearing about adding Army.
Pac 2/MWC will have a relatively tight geography once they get the deal done.

I still think a confederation of MWC+P2 and AAC would work.
1 Super Conference with 2 Divisions
- Pac Mountain West
- American Athletic
['list]
Regular season schedules for all sports stay within each Division.
- Non-revenue sports have no crossover
- Revenue sports would have limited crossover
Football
- 1 crossover pairing per team for 2 years home-and-home
- Rotate every 2 years to another pairing
Basketball
- 2 crossover pairings per team for 2 years home-and-home
- Rotate every 2 years to another pairing
Championships for all sports will pit division champs. Site could either be neutral or home of higher ranked team.
