RE: ESPN to show 75 College Football Games in Movie Theaters this season
Hawaii has been showing its games live in selected local movie theaters for years. Some fans really enjoy this option as opposed to going to the stadium. This Friday's game with Stanford will be shown at a couple of theater locations out in the Honolulu suburbs. Seats are priced at $16 apiece.

But I bet the cleaning staff would hate it.

Alumni clubs will jump on this. You can have your Happy Hour nearby and then watch the game.

You mean they clean? Wow! Who knew?

If you want a clean movie theater, catch the first matinée of the day.

After that, there's only spot cleaning. Show breaks need to be short—especially when feature films run three hours long.

Really? It was my college job for undergraduate. I changed the marquee, bounced the behavior problems, and rode with the owner for the deposits, and spent some time in the booth. The prices have gone up over the last 50 plus years, but the changeover is the same. Best college job ever!!! Two free tickets to any theater in town (3 and a twin, they had reciprocal agreements even though under different companies). I worked for Martin. If we took our own cup the drinks were free as well and the trips were limitless. My honey, the one that became my wife, and I saw about every movie that was released for 3 years. We maintained date night through children, grandchildren, and up until Covid.

I am reminded of them as phrased by Naci Griffith who commented on Woolworth stores saying, "they smelled like popcorn and chewing gum rubbed around on the bottom of a leather soled shoe." It's still true no matter how cushy the reclining seats.

I watch a few games every season at a movie theater already. It is free. They make money on the concessions.

Here's a list of all the games being shown in theaters. There's some pretty good ones on here. I'm already making plans for ND vs Louisville

I had a student job with GCC (absorbed by AMC in 2002). Not as lucrative as bartending but yes, a great student job. I met all kinds of interesting people.

They’ve had South Alabama games at a local theater in Mobile. While I’ve never been myself people that have gone have enjoyed it. Admission is “free” but most people pay for a voucher to reserve their spot and the credit goes toward food/drink. This is from their website:

Quote:Want to experience what it’s like to watch your favorite game from a Sky Box? Now you can at Nexus! The Nexus Theater offers the ultimate game time experience with our 24-foot laser projection screen and our Dolby Immersion sound system it will make you feel like you are at the game in the middle of all the hard-hitting action.

Choose from our premium power recliners or leather executive table chairs where you can enjoy your favorite food and game day beverages ordered from your own personal Menupad located at every seat. It’s personal service at the touch of a button!

Admission is free but with limited seats available you can take advantage of our food and beverage voucher that will allow you to reserve a seat! 100% of your voucher will be applied to your check.

I need it to be in IMAX 3D to truly experience the game.

I spoke with an independent Theater owner yesterday.
He told me that the movie business is so bad that they would welcome anything that would put 100 people in the seats.
Evidently high ticket prices at a time when people have less and less disposable income are hurting theaters. A large portion of the ticket price goes to the movie distributor and the theater operators need concession income to make a profit. The higher the ticket price, the less concessions being sold

This could be a great idea for the theater operators.....start looking for beer taps in the lobby.

Get in one of the ones with the built in speakers in your seat so everytime someone gets tackled you can feel it.

Also it was a good call on the alumni club earlier. I could see all kinds of alumni clubs in various cities trying to get this set up in the future.

Where I think this becomes a big deal is the New Years Six games, and maybe the Monday Night national championship.
New Years' Day, Fiesta Bowl / Rose Bowl / Sugar Bowl back-to-back-to-back, with the Rose and Sugar as semifinals.
What do you price that ticket at? PAckage it with upgraded concessions?

Weird they'd launch this with a doomed conference, huh?

Well, that will die quickly with another mandated Covid quarantine.

What they should bring back for these times we are in now, are drive-ins. You can talk in your own car, eat in your own car, and quarantine in your own car and if it's a blowout and the kids are at home you and the wife always have the backseat!

Cooler weather would be a must but yeah.

That BC vs Virginia game will be epic on the silver screen (said no one ever). 03-lmfao
