RE: Pope Francis Slams Conservatives in One of His Most Political Statements Yet
Francis has a well documented history of being a marxist and communist collaborator in Argentina for many years before his rise to the papacy.
Anyone who has looked into his history knows this is who he has been most of his life.

I guess that doesn't make him the Pope then, darn.

The Pope is not perfect and without sin. So there's that.

That's a pretty big hand wave to make when your relationship with God would not exist without the Catholic Church

That another lie, The Catholic church did not even come into existence in its present form until many centuries after Christ.
The chruch began in Jerusalem in about 32 AD, not in Rome.
If you would just read the Bible you would know this. There are also countless letters by the early church Fathers of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd centuries that lay out what the believed, how they worshiped and what books they saw as cannon. Their practices, doctrines and beliefs line up far better with modern protestants than modern Catholicism.
Christianity was actually an enemy of the state in Rome for the first 3 centuries as they genocided Christians all across the empire and in Rome.
All this is extremely well documented.

So there was no religion without the Catholic Church?
Please point to the passage in scripture that states we must have organized religion or where I need to talk to a man so he can pray for me?

Fascinating.
That's not relevant to what I said though. Unless you're implying that you're actually Jewish?
In any case, still doesn't excuse the sheer arrogance it takes to outright dismiss the highest Christian "authority" on this planet

No, there's plenty of religion without the Catholic Church, but Christianity, today, in the US, would not exist as we know it today if not for the Catholic Church, leading to the protestant reformation, leading to what I assume to be some variant of southern baptist that you adhere to today, the same way Islam and Catholicism would not exist were it not for Judaism, of which Judaism would not exist if not for the existence of Mesopotamian religions it drew it's mythology from.

Actually its totally relevant to what you said, you just don't want to hear the facts and truth on this.
There is no basis at all to claim the pope as any authority other than the RCC has decided to grant his authority in their own eyes. There is no such single "authority" in the New Testament or in the early church.
I realize you are allergic to basic facts but those are the facts on this issue. The pope has no authority at all in Gods eyes, and no such authority was ever given by God.

There you go assuming what type of church I attend... You're just as wrong about that as saying that the Pope is the end all be all in religion. Sorry you're wrong yet again.
Also I ask again:
Please point to the passage in scripture that states we must have organized religion or where I need to talk to a man so he can pray for me?

Utterly meaningless. Biblical Christianity is not based on the Catholic church, the RCC did not even exist until centuries after the early church which began in Jerusalem.
Christianity is based on the Gospel and the Bible. And in the Bible and the early church there is no such thing as the RCC or the pope or any such authority. Its just one of many denominations, and one that got powerful thanks to pagan Rome combing and mixing it into its pagan "world" kingdom.

RE: Pope Francis Slams Conservatives in One of His Most Political Statements Yet
Orthodox also reject the Roman pope. They are very similar to Roman Catholics, but reject Rome's authority. Either way, Roman Catholics will attest there's a difference between the pope just speaking & official Catholic Church position. It's his opinion, nothing more, nothing less, he's not saying it's from God. If it's not in the Catechism, it's not canon & official Roman position.
Roman authority was contested. There were a couple things early Christians were debating, & a couple documents said Rome is usually right, we should follow Rome's position. The language of those documents were blown up to mean we should follow the Roman Church in everything. Others disagreed & still do
Biblical Christianity has always existed, even under the authority of Roman Catholics. The Roman Catholics also doubled down against teachings they had previously not had problems w/ but thought were overly Protestant in the Counter Reformation.

RE: Pope Francis Slams Conservatives in One of His Most Political Statements Yet
Any religion that tells its followers that their church is the only way to salvation are simply being guilty of heresy. The RCC preached that no one could read and interpret the Bible except its priests/bishops/popes. Anyone caught reading a Bible could be put to death. Anyone contradicting what a church official said could be brought to trial and put to death. This occurred regularly in the early years of our history, especially if condemned in the Inquisition. There were some heretics that died before their trial and then were tried in abscentia and dug out of their graves and then burned at the stake. Even royalty were in fear of being excommunicated and thus not able to enter heaven so they were subservient to the Church. Tomas' de Torquemada was the Catholic churches' Paul before Paul converted to Christianity. Torquemada was killing people left and right and had ultimate authority over church doctrine. The only religion that resembles this is the Muslim religion in Muslim countries. The simple act of insulting their Koran can bring a persons demise.
The Catholic church was like todays Democratic Party in that they wanted to censor anyone and anything that contradicted their cathechism. Even as late as the beginning of 20th century the Catholic church could punish individuals for simply reading the Bible, i.e., censorship. You tell me why they would do that, the answer is simple, they didn't want anyone to know the truth about their religion. Most people who leave the church, present company included, leave it after being taught/read the Bible. There's countless blasphemous beliefs that contradict the Bible, i.e., the perpetual virginity of Mary and prayers to saints who I might add are mortals that are given saint status by the church, when in fact the Bible states that Jesus' believers are the true saints.
I could go on and on about how blasphemous the RCC is but you have to find out yourself if you're really interested. And believe me it is very interesting.

As does my denomination, Anglican (Church of England). The Anglo-Catholic branch is pretty much Catholicism without the pope.
English Christianity actually started with Orthodox missionaries. Orthodox Christianity mixed with local traditions that were largely nature-based to form Celtic Christianity from about 100 AD. The Roman Catholic church did not get to England until around 600 AD, when the pope sent Augustine to convert Celtic Christians to Roman Catholicism.

RE: Pope Francis Slams Conservatives in One of His Most Political Statements Yet
We talk a lot about how absurd the "identity" nonsense is in the wokism that has taken over our culture.
Yet a very large percentage of Christians identify as their denomination, as opposed to Christian. People always identify first and foremost as a Catholic, or a Baptist, or Orthodox, etc.
Yet there are no Baptists, Catholics, Orthodox, etc in heaven. There are only those who are washed in the blood of the Lamb. God does not care about any other such distinction, in fact He is very clear that He does not approve of such division in the Body of Christ at all. (1 Corinthians 1:10-17)
Yet identifying as ones denomination is just paramount for the overwhelming majority of Christians in America. And we use them practically as a point of pride or even vanity.
We rail against "identity politics" but love us some "identity Christianity".
We should be Christians first and last, because our denominational identity is utterly meaningless and unapproved by the God we Worship.
