I dont believe any of those 5 teams can out score Western

QB play makes or breaks you at the G5 level. Add in the QBs for Ohio and San Diego State that makes 6 really bad QBs and one average. But then its easy being average when you are facing the FIU defense.

Unless all 5 of these CUSA schools makes 100% improvement in QB play or defense (tech that first half was ugly when you had to play pass and run defense) this is a 3 team race. I will save judgement on SHST till I see if their offense is improved from last year. If their offense is back to scoring a ton of points they finish no worse than 4th based off today....

but teams usually improve, hope that's the case because that was some ugly football
QB1 for Ohio, #7, is one of the top Quarterbacks in the FBS. Had he not been knocked out of the game, Ohio wins at SDSU running away.

LaTech’s QB didn’t do all that bad. Give him some time in the system and I believe they can win some games. My son and I were watching the Bulldogs and we both agreed that LaTech doesn’t pass the “eye test” like in years past…doesn’t mean they will fold like a lawn chair, just an observation.

RE: LA Tech vs FIU
I believe I read on BBB message board that Cumbie told the local QB Club that there were only 25 scholarship players still on the team when he took over. I’m sure some left through the portal but that seems to indicate we had a lack of depth and talent as our record has shown the last couple of years. Hopefully he can get this turned around quickly. Lots of question marks but plays were made at the end of the game that showed some tenacity. (Stop on 3rd and 2, TD run, and interception). Usually improve in the second week. At SMU next week. They came from behind to beat us at the end of the game last year. Hoping for a good one.

We were very, very fortunate to win the game, but we got it done. On to SMU next week.

I watched all of this game last night since UNT will face both in a few weeks. Congrats to LA Tech. I was pulling for y'all.

I have never felt such relief and lack of celebration from our fanbase after a win. I do hope that Cumbie can improve the team as the season goes on.

The first quarter, and inability to finish drives. Attempted five field goals in the game and missed two. Can't leave points on the field, and also have to convert more drives into TD's. Two long TD's and five drives that stalled isn't good enough. I think a lot of that was due to having the the fourth, fifth, and eventually emergency RB as the only available backs. FIU also did a good job keeping everything in front of them and limiting the availability of deep plays. All said and done from the 2nd quarter on Tech put up 19 points and put up over 350 yards of offense, while conceding 75 yards and 3 points.

While I don't think this team is on par with what has come to be expected from Tech in the past, I think the offense will be in a much better spot once Shelton, Crosby, and Thorton are healthy. Seemed to force way too much and get themselves down behind the markers in some critical situations that then lead Cumbie to play for field goals instead of continuing to push. I will give the backs some credit though. A walk-on, True Fr, and Tr Fr DB getting their first immersion into D1 football they were serviceable.

There was a lot to like in this win. Plenty to be concerned about, but at this point we just celebrate the win and start trying to get the next one.

It's good to be at the top of the standings. Hopefully we'll stay there.

First game.

Most teams and QB's will look a lot different after a few games.
