New Name For Atlantic Coast Conference
The Atlantic Coast Conference will soon need a new name. I think it's highly likely that they'll stick with ACC as an abbreviation. My guesses are:

American Coastal Conference; or
American Collegiate Conference (the more likely, I think)

What do you think?

I think we will stick with our brand (since 1953).

Keep the current name, the B1G, Big 12,SEC aren’t changing their names even though they have expanded far beyond their conference title

why ...
predominantly ...
it is an atlantic coast conference ...
stretching eastern seaboard ...
Miami to Boston ...
ports in-between ...
what’s wrong w/ just acc ...
a lot of brand equity ...

TAKE IT TO MEAN WHAT I CHOOSE IT TO MEAN

Uhhh .... no.

The Atlantic Coast Conference didn't change their name when ...

... Gulf of Mexico Coast member Florida State joined ...
... Nor land locked memberNotre Dame joined ...
... Nor Ohio River Coast members Pitt and Louisville joined ...
... Nor up-state 5 Finger Lake Coast memberSyracuse joined.

We shouldn't change the name just because we're picking up some refugees from NoCal or Texas.

Not that I don't want the refugees. If they join, I'm looking forward to playing them. It will be fascinating to watch the new additions and the conference go forward.

No need to change names. Ford and Disney didn’t change when the founders were no longer in charge. Apple continued its brand even as it transformed into a consumer products company. Amazon is not from Brazil and Coca-Cola has not used coca leaves for well over a century.

ACC is a good brand. None of the P4 have accurately descriptive names. You can also make believe that ACC now stands for All Coasts Conference.

You can get a boat from the Atlantic to all of those places or very very close to them.

Keep the name fine, but it is ridiculous with Stanford and Cal in the conference.

Keep you name . XLance is right.

American is off limits. That name is linked to another conference. If you want to rebrand, be original.

You may take our teams, but you’ll never take our name.

That could almost work. We just need Pitt and VT to step up and win a national title in a sport. Every other ACC school has at least 1 national title in an NCAA sport.

Even Standford, Cal, and SMU have recognized national championships in their history.

Pittsburgh Panthers football
Claimed national titles 9 (1915, 1916, 1918, 1929, 1931, 1934, 1936, 1937, 1976)
Unclaimed national titles 8 (1910, 1917, 1925, 1927, 1933, 1938, 1980, 1981)

Pitt fans need to update your wikipedia pages. I pulled a list that said Pitt and VT had zero.

I think they're AP Poll titles or something like that since there wasn't an official champion during those years. That could be why.

RE: New Name For Atlantic Coast Conference
From WAER.org:
"...shockingly, Virginia Tech has never hoisted an NCAA national championship trophy for a team event in the history of the school.

That less-than-desired accolade tags VT with Kansas State as the only two Power-Five programs to have never won a team national championship in their entire history. Various athletes for the Hokies have won individual titles, but no Tech team has landed at the end of a bracket."

So we're down to 2 schools, and VT is one. That really stinks.

NCAA still doesn't crown an FBS champ

It's been emphasized as ACC rather than Atlantic Coast Conference for years anyway
