They still haven't taken this news down from the PAC-12 website. Jesus Christ.

What even was supposed to be the purpose of the Alliance?

Even before the Big Ten took USC and UCLA, I never understood what the Alliance was supposed to do.

Just like what we saw with "Oregon and Washington on board for Pac-12 deal with Apple" and what we're seeing with "Stanford and Cal to the ACC looks like it's happening"

It's a set up move

FDR was healthier in that picture than the PAC is today.

The announced aims of the Alliance:

1
Arrange a champion-qualifying CFP format.

2
Hit the brakes on expansion via inter-P5 poaching.

Achieve new revenues through cooperation (schedules, etc).

3
Work together to enact standards that secure academic priorities (in the face of mounting pay-for-play pressures and weakening NCAA structure).

The Alliance arguably still exists. The B1G Ten took itself out and the B12 was never in it. A relationship of relative trust and goodwill yet exists between ACC and PAC schools, who never betrayed each other. (Geography helped this, of course.)

PAC schools wanted to stay together. The ACC, by all accounts, did what it could to help. (Contrast this approach with those taken by the lion B1G and hyena B12.) The feeling of shared interest continues. It's a big reason we see PAC survivors approaching the ACC today.

One could say that should the ACC now admit PAC schools, the true end of 'The Alliance' has arrived.

FDR died 2 months after that picture. I guess the PAC is slightly better off at the moment.

Have you tried reading?

Some people find this activity useful for clarifying otherwise bewildering topics.

The article you link to in your OP, for example... Did you ever suppose it might be helpful to, you know, take a look at that?

Just a suggestion. Good luck.

Memo to Yormark...

If the B1G calls wanting to make an "alliance", POLITELY DECLINE.
