And...I most certainly did not get an accounting degree...from anywhere.

So, this is an honest query, why am I looking at this? Am I to be surprised? Outraged? Nonplused?

Is there something here that I am learning?

RE: 2021-22 Form 990 MAC money
Just information.

How many times/posts have you seen/read that toss around figures, for example, of how much money the ESPN deal brings in? The one MAC HQ doesn't want to talk about because its an arrangement between two private entities (ESPN and MAC HQ). How about how much we get from the CFP? The NCAA tournament? How about how much a MAC school actually earns via the MAC and those revenue sources?

When something like this becomes available, similar to Knight Commission reports, IMO it's good to have real numbers to look at. To compare when discussing media rights deals r.e. other conferences, which get talked about frequently vis-a-vis how "good" (or not) the deal is. Or e.g. how much those weekday nights are worth. I for one wish we could get "eyeball" reports from somewhere about that.

Why should we NOT know? So do what you want. Or not. Your choice.

RE: 2021-22 Form 990 MAC money
Just lays out in print how painful the stupid "MACtion" contract is with ESPN. AAC contract is $7m per school for markets that are for the most part the same as the MAC. They also lost their biggest name teams, but they still get this payout even for the new schools that joined. MAC leadership is pretty pathetic to keep this deal in place.

RE: 2021-22 Form 990 MAC money
The value of this analysis for me is when you stack it up against other conferences, specifically the AAC and MWC. Although it would also be interesting to see how the MVC compares. When I have seen similar stats in the past the AAC and MWC are usually showing 3x - 4x greater revenues than the MAC.

The low cost bus league strategy the MAC utilizes can only get you so far on the expense side as there is a floor on how much you can cut and still be operational. The higher upside part of the equation is revenue but the MAC has boxed itself in to such a bubble that seems it will be very difficult to substantially push up conference revenue without expansion. If you believe figures tossed around in various posts for the next media deal, it will likely still not even get the MAC half of the what the MWC is getting today.

Funny you should ask. After I posted the above on the MAC bbs, Garden_KC did as you asked. Without stepping on them -- and all credit where due -- here is that post...
