You could buy beer but the pub was not setup.

These type of little things bug the crap out of me as someone who wants the best for NIU athletics. How hard is it to have the pub set up and a couple people working it. It truly has started to help create a fun atmosphere during sporting events in the convo. The convo is a very vanilla arena so anything helps. It should always be set up and the p.a. announcer should before the event starts and at halftime or breaks announce we have adult beverages/specials in victor Pub for Huskies fans and whatever team we’re playing fans! You want the Viking fans and Huskies fans to feel that this is a fun environment and that is how you grow fan support

I generally agree with you but I did ask the question. We no longer have a sponsorship agreement with Budweiser who was sponsoring the the Victor E Pub including the cost of the bartender. Athletics is working with the new beer company, Constellation, about sponsoring it moving forward or having to take the total cost in house. To be resolved prior to basketball season.

The total cost of what? People pay for the drinks. The bartender how much can that cost seriously? We should not have athletics if things are that tight! I’m being serious!

With or without the bar it was a great event. The crowd was great, the entire marching band and the Silverettes were there. A lot of students. I can’t complain.

My only concern was the pregame Alumni event only had seven of us there. It was only a couple of bucks and included food.

Bartenders get super low hourly because of the tips as we all know. Tips might be light at a game, but are you telling me NIU can't afford one local or grad student at $100/game pay, when they would at worst break even on the beer sales profit?

The floor will look beautiful to NIU fans once the Huskies put a lot of wins on it.

STF's latest Frazier's Corner lists some facilities project completed and some under way ... the new basketball floor is supposed to be in during October.

Also mentions some projects "on deck," including an on-campus golf hitting facility.

Good to see them at least doing small improvements. They need to promote these items better. His note was a total CYA for the egregious error of omitting facilities from the Strategic Plan that was published. They still need to come up with a longer term vision for minimal improvements in HS (Restrooms, concessions, and gathering spaces), ripping out the ill conceived track at the Convo and upgrading the seating (and don't fixate on getting 9k in seating just make it comfortable) etc. The last $100m+ plan failed, so regroup and try again. They just seem really afraid to let go of that one and try something that might be more implementable.
