Why this doesn't work in college is because you can't build your team around legacy players and newcomers to keep yourself at the level you strive to be. No matter how much you want to keep your best players they graduate or turn pro early.

So, you end up promoting senior laden teams that suck the following year and demoting teams with more underclassmen who are good the following year. As laid out its too much movement.

I get that the world likes it for soccer, but I don't really like pro/rel for American sports. It's not how we do things and I can't imagine any major American league will decide to try it.

I doubt even USL ends up doing it.

The Big Boys will never go for regulation due the potential money loss with moving down.

Yep, while at first glance it appears that it would be perfect for college with teams rising & falling often, this detail is the one that makes it fall apart. The athletes come & go too fast to make it worthwhile.

Let's be honest. Even European leagues are trying to copy parts of the American systems and why the European Super League was almost a thing.
