Inconsistency. You also lost to far less talented teams at home (usm).

Tulane shot themselves in the foot. Botched 2 FG attempts and threw a pick 6.

They lost despite having 2x the number of first downs, 150 more yards total on offense, and holding the ball for 13 minutes more.

Ole Miss is 0-2 on the road against AAC teams. So I wouldn't worry too much about Tulane getting embarrassed. If anything that looks like an easy win unless if Ole Miss has a flukey great season.

Ole miss hung 61 points on Tulane last time they played.

They will murder Tulane. The talent gap is too big.

Tulane is and will be a night/day different team when Ole Miss sees them this year.

Why? I'm glad you asked.

- 1) 2021 Game came at the end of Tulane's month long stay at B-Ham hotel after hurricane Ida had then evac NOLA. During that month they were still forced to do silly covid restrictions and had no work out or recovery facilities among other things. To say they were flat would be an understatement. "It turns out the hour-and-45-minute lightning delay before the start of the Ole Miss game could not have been worse for the Tulane football team.

Coach Willie Fritz decided to reward all of his players at the end of a three-week, Hurricane Ida-forced stay in Birmingham, Alabama, by bringing the entire 115-man roster to Oxford, Mississippi, instead of the normal 75, only to be greeted by a cramped visiting locker room
." - Coach Fritz

-2) That doesn't excuse the other major factor. The then rookie DC could fielded a terrible defense based on complicated man coverage hand offs and pressure. After Ole Miss carved Tulane up that week the next few teams did as well: ECU scored 52(the same ECU team that would only score 9 points in 2022), Houston 40(they scored 24 in '22), SMU scored 55(only 24 in '22). In the last month of the season Tulane changed up what they were doing(many think Fritz took the reigns a bit) and they only allowed 14 to UCF; 13 in regulation to Tulsa; 14 to USF and lost to the Fighting Silverfields by 5 in Memphis 33-28.

-3) Tulane poached Troy's DC Shield wood. Troy was 8th in the country in scoring defense last year. Troy's defense gave up 28 to Ole Miss in oxford last year. While not great, he definitely slowed them down.

The 2022 Tulane Ole Miss game was in the long long ago before time. Hopefully Ole Miss thinks it will be as easy as then as well.

I still have a ticket for if you're interested....

Oh you've done done it now. The Sunbelt board will be over here shortly adding their opinions on the AAC just as they have a 12 page thread over there now as they closely track AAC/PAC4 realignment drama.

Surprised that SMU didn't receive any votes. I guess I understand why. A lot of unknowns, and to prove, but very well capable in terms of talent

Quite surprised no votes for SMU, Memphis, ECU, or Navy. All have cases to be dark horses for the title. And Navy getting votes to make ND look good is the classic A5 narrative bull****.

Tulane will be really good this year.
What will tell the tale for us going forward and out ability to maintain, however, is next year.

Tim Brando speaks to the absurdity of AP Poll, and states that the AP Poll is the #1 reason we are in such turmoil with realignment. Great interview! His top 10 was well thought out and not just based on brand and recruiting classes.

Alright, didn't realize these new school mods were so sensitive they are ending multiple page discussions for zero reason and simply moving things to off topic because it doesn't concern their school who just got here.

Have fun guys, I'm out this is clearly not the place to talk about the biggest subject concerning the AAC.

Enjoy that weather and music thread though.

Music hater you. You can comment on this thread. Timmy B has Tulane in the top 10.

Last I checked, field goals and interceptions were part of the game? They lost, simple and plain. They got beat, one might say. Whether it was by themselves or on the scoreboard, doesn't matter. The mighty AAC Champions lost to a middling Sun Belt school, at home. Now the Sun Belt has more teams lined up to potentially be in the AP Top 25 than does the AAC.

Tides are turning.

And here's the difference between the two leagues. They measure themselves v. AAC. They love their regional league with engaged fanbases and prefer that to the more metro approach of the AAC. Wonderful. Be happy. To each his own. But nope, AAC still lives in their heads.
Tulane's been living in USM's head for 40 years; it's insane that we do, but it's true. (Oh, I know why we live in their heads, but it's still insane).
