RE: PAC 12 (4) Can Remain Viable Conference for 2 Years
This is interesting, as I had read elsewhere they needed 6 members to maintain NCAA status and tourney bids. Not sure if there is a grace period there also.

They probably still need to make decisions rather quickly if they want to make it easier for AAC and MWC teams to leave with lower exit fees.

Thing is with no signed TV contract, if (big if) they want to stick together, they may find an alignment that makes ok money and can get it done but it might not pay to leave immediately money. Then playing 2024-25 short-handed may be the best option. Tough it out, let the incomings get a lower exit fee and then ramp back up in 2025-26 or even 2026-27 at the extreme end.

I wonder if Apple is still on board for the remaining schools and willing to pay decent for new AAC or MWC schools. The exit fees are still a lot of money but there may be schools wanting to leave for the ghost of a power conference and willing to pay. If they already know who they want in the new PAC then I’m sure those schools will try to work out OOC matchups in all sports for two years until they can join.

Real college football fans should like to see this happen. I don't want to see the PAC die. Even through all of the negligence, they are a big part of CFB history.

Add the AAC schools for 2024, then the MWC in 2025 (or 2026). Would result in the MWC schools paying a $17M exit fee, instead of $34M.

Or, the 2 PAC schools could join the MWC for no exit fees.

While I am nostalgic of the BCS era, schools like Boise State and TCU were teased to get a national championship shot but couldn't get over the hump no matter what. Those type of teams could've potentially made some noise in an expanded playoffs.

There's still 4 PAC schools. Efforts to get Stanford & Cal somewhere else have been unsuccessful.

Hmmm. Define “real” college football fans.

Conferences go through transitions. Sometimes they disappear. The PAC has had an extraordinarily good run, but circumstances have changed. The PAC is now history, and we can all recall its contribution to college football as much as we like.

Still, college football will survive without the PAC’s participation as a member of the so-called “P5”. On the upside, there’s now more room for the SBC to shine.

Ah, yes . . . . The Biggest Midget in the Room argument.

If you really think that what’s going on at the “P whatever” level, and with the Networks is good for the G5 in the long run, you ain’t paying attention.

Listening to their admins, WSU & OSU are ready to merge with the MWC. Cal & Stanford not being able to get out of the way may be the glue that holds all 4 together and brings about a rebuild. How that works is anybody’s guess, but now they’ve brought in Oliver Luck as a “consultant” to do the Pac commissioner’s job.

G5 realignment is going to be interesting if PAC-4 raids 4-5 from AAC and a 3-4 from MWC.

They’re not raiding anybody from the MWC any time soon due to the exit fee. For now, they just need to add enough to make scheduling and a tolerable media contract viable. It’s that second part that’s gonna be the booger.

OSU just said they are trying to save the PAC.

They aren't walking away from their A5 status, CFP autobid and Basketball Units and anyone that thinks they are is delusional.

I can't help but think it's only a matter of time until the Pac-4 figure everything out and we begin hearing that the rumored AAC schools (Tulane, SMU, Rice) are leaving.
